One of my LLMD suggested Androgrpahis for lyme and for virus's I have read reviews and it seems to get some postive ones.
I am nervous bc I have a history of hives and it says 10% of people can get hives from it.
Anyone have any experience with it?

It is awesome, take it! Great for taking down viruses and boosting the immune system.
Actually, thanks for the reminder. I ran out over the winter and haven't gotten another bottle. Need to get this back in the mix.

Yes, I took it whilst on the Buhner protocol. Some people do react to it, but if you start very slowly and build up your dose gradually, you should be safer. I have not heard of people getting instant severe hives, as I got, for example whilst on Tinidazole and Rifampin.
I had no problem at all with Andrographis, but we are all different, so I'm afraid that no-one can really say how you will react.
Good luck with it and remember to start off slowly.

- I did very well with it - starting with just one a day, adding slowly over month, I worked up to 16 tablets a day for 14 months full speed - I could not do the whole Buhner protocol, could only afford one thing and this was it.
It was not enough alone. Just to be clear. I knew that going in but was hoping it might be. So, still, best as PART of a protocol (as are most things). Combination is always best and as you see a LLMD, my guess is that this is just part of the plan.
Pros: when on this, it nearly "cured" my burning mouth and mouth ulcers of years' duration. Now off of it, mouth is worse.
It is VERY sedating in action. Especially the first week or two, expect to need to rest - a lot. And that's okay. While surprised, in retrospect, I can see that my body really needed that down time.
Do not take before driving - until you determine how this works for you. After a week or two, all should be fine with daytime alertness.
I found I slept great with this, though I had a few more active dreams at first (and that makes sense).
And it will cause increased urination (which is a good thing, actually but can be inconvenient until you hit a stride with it and can know your bladder's new "needs" around this -- still, drink lots of water with it.
Some can get the rash and some can have other reactions, too. I had no issues other than sleepiness and increased urination. And that was worth the good effects for me.
For myself, it was extremely helpful to lessen seizures in intensity and number. But there was another poster here who had the opposite reation.
So, do start low and slow. Don't push it if you don't feel right on it but know that sleepiness is an expected early reaction and it can cause a bit of a herx so just take it easy.
As it's often out of stock in the tablets that I like, I've moved over to BERBERINE. It also helps about equally to lessen seizures for me and strengthens the "threshold" with startles but is it not sedating nor too stimulating (as allicin can be).
More detail below as you study your options.
On paper, andrographis appears to have better circulation.
As many good articles about herbs are disappearing (the FDA does not want us to have access), if you find any article of interest, copy and paste that to your own word file in your computer for safe keeping.

- You might start with the tincture, that way you can literally start drop by drop - in some water.
Herb Pharm is one brand, likely more in the links set above. -

- GOTU KOLA
- can't find my links set in my file (where did that go?) but will be back.
As you say you have a history of hives, Gotu Kola may be excellent to help in that regard. -----------
Still can't find a set that I know I compiled and not up to recreating it. For now, start here, From The One Earth Herbal Sourcebook (Tillotson, et.al.). Then search PubMed, etc.
. . . Nettle leaf extracts reduce inflammation, in part, by suppressing the release of inflammatory cytokines.
They do this by blocking a chemical inducer known as NF-KappaB, which alters gene expresion. This may be one explanation for the beneficial efffects this herb has exhibited in rheumatoid arthritis (Riehemann et al., 1999). . . .
. . . its ability to slow down the inflammatory cytokine response caused by endotoxins. . . . -

- While Andrographis is good liver support, itself, since it can also cause a herxheimer reaction, you might want to be sure you have a well rounded liver support plan.
Actually, both Stinging Nettle and Gotu Kola can help tremendously as herxheimer support. Neither has "direct" action against lyme but are excellent supports that can go with just about any treatment plan. Just check with your LL doctor so you are all on the same page.
LIVER & KIDNEY SUPPORT & and several HERXHEIMER support links, too.
LL ND (naturopathic doctor) links included -

I have no experience with Valtrex, however, because Andrgraphis hits many things and not just viruses, it seems like a superior choice vs. the Valtrex, to me...

I just started taking Andrographis and Cat's Claw tinctures last week. I have noticed an improvement already - on my good days I feel like a million bucks, ready to take on the world - bad days don't seem to be as bad as they were, but it's only been one week and I'm on a very low dosage.
I'll know more next week when I double up the dosage. i'm liking it, except for the taste - YUCK!!!!!

- jjourneys,
Even if on a very low dose - unless you are taking just one a day right now,
please DO NOT DOUBLE all at once. Add just one capsule / tablet / dose a day for a week or so before then adding just one more per day for a week, etc. - tiny steps. -

Yes, he dropped Andrographis, but that's because some people have trouble tolerating it.
I never have had trouble with it. I think those who do either start with too big a dose, or maybe are sensitive or allergic to it.

Started my double dosage today, no issues. Per Drs order, I was suppose to double it up this week. Started out low dosage, by week 6 suppose to up up it 6x by the original dosage. We'll see how this goes along the way.
