A few months ago, I posted about having severe acid reflux, and most of you told me to try going gluten-free.
Well, having hypoglycemia that can hit at any time, not being able to stand long to fix meals and go grocery shopping, etc. just made a gluten-free diet sound impossible.
But, the reflux just kept getting worse.
So, yesterday, I avoided gluten all day and IMMEDIATELY the reflux decreased 80 to 90 percent.
UNBELIEVABLE!
I will stick with it to the best of my ability and try to gradually get off of Pepcid.
I'm also taking DGL and avoiding spices, etc.
Thanks all. I'll keep you posted.

When I went GF, I could tell a major difference in 10 days. But you have to eliminate all sources of hidden gluten.
I had gone GF before without results because I was unaware of places it was hiding in foods and condiments.
Go to www.celiac.com to print off lists of OK and not-OK ingredients.

That is awesome you are seeing such quick results! I'd lay odds that people's issues with gluten are due to the wheat being genetically modified.

Who knows? Could just be the Sjogren's. That means that my mucous membranes are few and far between. I'm missing the protective layer.
--or it could be from the various meds I take--

HI Rivendell:
I have been off wheat since last July. The reflux was one of the main reasons as well as wanting to control the "hunger".
It took me about two weeks to really start noticing the benefits.
Whenever I have a reflux episode now it is due to some wheat slipping into a food product I missed.
I was say on a scale of 1 to 10 and I was an 8, I'm probably now at a 2 with no medications.
Also the food cravings have just disappeared.

Lymetoo, my mother had Sjogren's. So sorry you are dealing with that and that you have lost protective layers. You must be very careful not to irritate those areas, but you know that.
Tim, glad to know that you don't need medication and that the food cravings have disappeared.
Kayak, you get good results too!
I'm just amazed. It has been so hard to get well, and for something like this to help this much gives me hope.
The reflux isn't gone, but much better.
And I will keep an eye out for hidden sources.

Going gluten free helped my reflux, too. It's done the same for a lot of folks! Congrats for being proactive!

- Yep, me, too. Reflux left and never returned once I got rid of gluten. Full body pain, brain fog and full body swelling also improved about 60 %.
The sinus swelling also got much better off gluten - and even better yet when I said good-bye to dairy.
I had sinus and ear fullness & pain my whole life. Wish someone had told me decades sooner that it could have been from gluten and dairy. But glad to know now. -

- For those new to all this, be sure to see the "Hidden Sources of Gluten" here and also the NYT article about many being helped when dairy is stopped:
