I have a Lyme friend who has been experiencing dark yellow urine since last night. This is not usual for her. She has been drinking extra water to help, but it hasn't changed the color yet.

Any advice on when to be alarmed or what to do?

For just one night seems nothing to be too concerned with - she can't back up and drink more water the day before yesterday. Now that she has increased, that should help from her on out but it can take a day or two.

Agree with Keebler, but if it keeps up despite drinking plenty of water, I would ask for liver lab tests.

The increased yellow color in the urine is likely due to bilirubin.

If you have Babesia, the increased breakdown of red blood cells causes higher levels of bilirubin in the bloodstream that is filtered out by the kidneys, and the urine turns darker.

If you have Hepatitis or cirrhosis, the resulting jaundice will cause yellowing of the eyes and skin, and darker urine.

See your doctor to be evaluated and to get blood tests that can measure your liver function.

She may be dehydrated. If it is brownish, it could be from Babs or something else.

She should get it checked out. Dark urine can indicate a UTI or kidney infection, which can be serious.
