my new doc gives Igenex to every new patient. I am on Doxy, won't that make any test invalid for lyme? what about co-infections?

Hi Lisa,

I asked my doc about this as well.

I had my initial igenex test. Results-lots of band IND, some bands positive. But still overall "negative" for lyme.

Started doxy. 6 weeks doxy. Addedd tinidizole. Changed to mino.

Whicle still on abx, with no break, took blood for second Igenex test.

Results: more bands present than before. Overall "positive" for lyme.

All my coinfections have been clinical dx's.

I'm under the impression that Co-infection tests are just as iffy as lyme tests.

so no lyme, then lyme? how is that??

this is just like a back joke! haha

so when I am barely living on the money I have why waste it - it is like gambling?

I want the test, but I will cry if it is negative!

Taking doxy can make more bands show up.. but I am still in the camp that believes the best results are when you are OFF the doxy for 10-14 days prior to the test.

Even Igenex says that.

hmmm, thanks a bunch! it seems like a perfect plan someone up there has for me since my rx runs out exactly 12 days before I get my test!!!!

I am so glad I asked!

That is lucky.

The doxy converts some of the spirochetes to cyst form.

When you stop taking the doxy, the borellia go back to spirochete form.

Those 12 days might be rough-but will be useful for your LLMD to see you at rock bottom.

And maybe your immune system will really send out the antibodies and your WB will be positive [Smile]

Lyme is slow growing.

It is.

But isn't it slow to reproduce?

Ie: multiply in numbers?

I was under the impression that it can go between forms, depending on the environment, whenever it likes.

Ie: can go back into spirochete form after it has been in cyst form, especially when it has 'sensed' that abx has stopped?

When I stopped my abx for two weeks, (Lisa, please don't get scared here), it was awful. I had full lyme flare, like back before I started abx.

I wouldn't think it would affect it.

The antibodies are either there, or not there.

When is your appointment again? Are you getting excited?

I am very excited, haha, but remaining calm since it is not until Oct 8th which seems like yrs away right now.

I just read severe reactions to doxy are trouble swallowing, stomach pain/cramping, and throat irritation- which I have all these. I guess that is why my dr just told me to stop taking it

And yes, I just read that if you are allergic to penicillin you should be very careful about taking Cleftin which is what he wants to put me on instead....

I wish that dr LLMD was next week!!!!

I have only been tested while on meds, and I had many reactive bands. Remember regardless if tested while on meds or not, no test is completely reliable.

Ask your doctor what he/she prefers.
