So I have decided to start taking magnesium until I see the doctor to help with my symptoms.

How much magnesium should I take a day?

Should I take on an empty stomach?

Any side effects I should be aware of?

Thanks!!

I take magnesium citrate.

It should be taken away from abx. And also other meds.

I take 250mg at lunch. And then 250 mg at dinner, and another 250mg before bed. (but I've been doing mag for a while...you should probably start with less)...

Also, sometimes it can make one have loose bowels, but I'm not sure if that's with just the oxide form or with all forms.

It doesn't affect me that way.

Also, another option is magnesium oil or gel, which is absorbed subdermally. Have heard lots of good stuff about that.

Also, epsom salts have magnesium, which is why a good soak in epsom salts helps sore muscles.

How quickly depends upon what symptoms are bother you and how deficient you are. On the link above (keebler) I mention a product called ReMag. It is DYNAMITE.

I will never do without this product!

Most doctors say to use mag glycinate if you have a lot of muscle pain.

From page 28 of Burrascano:

"Magnesium supplementation is very helpful for the tremors, twitches, cramps, muscle soreness, heart skips and weakness. It may also help in energy level and cognition. The best source is magnesium L-lactate dehydrate (“Mag-tab SR”, sold by Niche Pharmaceuticals: 1-800-677-0355, and available at Wal-Mart). DO NOT rely on “cal-mag”, calcium plus magnesium combination tablets, as they are not well absorbed. Take at least one tablet twice daily. Higher doses increase the benefit and should be tried, but may cause diarrhea."

This is GREAT magnesium. Walmart pharmacy will special order it for you and it will be in the next day.

If you follow the Burrascano dosages, you should notice a difference in a week if you are mag deficient.

Vitamins and minerals are best absorbed with food, so I suggest you take the mag with breakfast and dinner.

Start slow and low until you see how your stomach reacts.

Take with food.

Avoid magnesium oxalate. It will cause bad diarrhea.

Magnesium needs to be combined with something so it will be absorbed.

I take Opti-mag. My doc wants me up to 800mg (started at 100mg). I tolerated it for awhile then needed to go down because of stomach issues.

Plain magnesium citrate caused me to be very ill, so you need to find what works for you.

You might want to consider getting a powder so you can better control ramping up in small doses.

Magnesium glycinate is good. Magnesium malate is pretty mild on the stomach too.

Judie-My new magnesium powder is magnesium malate. It is supposed to help pull the aluminum from the body...Any experience with malate form of magnesium?

Thanks [Smile]

I'm taking Mag Tab SR. I'm actually feeling better today. I think it has definitely helped with my soreness and twitching. Not really sure about my heart palps. But feeling better anyway I can is great!

I noticed that Mag Tab SR by Niche contains polyethylene glycol.

Anyone know why ? Is the PEG what makes it slow release?

Any concern about consuming PEG ?

Thank you.

It contains artificial color, as well. I don't like the additives in it:

84 mg Elemental Magnesium L-Lactate Dihydrate; Polyethylene Glycol; Microcrystalline Cellulose; Carnauba Wax; Stearic Acid; Calcium Stearate; D&C Yellow No. 1
