I have a question for all of my smart friends here
I've been taking my Mag and Calcium together but am starting to question whether this is a smart decision.
I've read that they compete for the same receptor site so if taken together one may not be absorbed. I've also read that they enhance the absorption of each other.
So what is right?
Currently I've been taking about 1,500mg Mag w/ 400mg Cal
It is super important for my calcium to be absorbed. My bone density levels are dangerously low.
It is hard to take these supplements when I take so many meds throughout the day.
Thank you all for understanding, I look forward to hearing your answers!

I can only say that I know a lot of people that take them togther, what does your doctor say?
Magnesium and calcium are safe and well absorbed when taken together if you don't exceed the Recommended Dietary Allowance of either. Magnesium's RDA for adults 31 years of age and older is 420 mg for men and 320 mg for women. The RDA for calcium is 1,000 to 1,200 mg for this same group.

My DH improved his bone density only after adding Fish Oil.
He was taking calcium, magnesium, vitamin C, and vitamin D, and his bone density was still going down (his bone loss is from long-term steroid use due to severe allergies).
But an alternative health care practitioner recommended fish oil, and so my DH found he wasn't allergic to Cod Liver Oil, so that's what he takes (along with all the other minerals & vitamins mentioned above).
Once he added the Cod Liver Oil, his bone density increased 11% in one year, much to the shock & surprise of the Endocrinologist. This is with NO bone density drugs...

Razzle, is vit C important for bones too? And is it ok to take all those supplements together? Will they be absorbed well or will they compete with each other?
