so my cold lingers and my lower nose is covered in fever blisters. worst ever in my life, both nostrils covered.
I am desperate. I am considering lysine and asking for an rx of valtrex. I have never taken either of these.
my question is, do either of these interact with lyme or cause herxing??

I am sorry you have this so severe, it must be very painful.
Lysine can help shorten the healing time. I think Abreva works the best as a topical. When I use Abreva, I smother the sore with it. I have used both simultaneously before, and I don't believe it affected the Lyme. You may want to check with your doctor though.
I hope they go away soon and you get some relief.

I've taken L-Lysine internally for viral infections (colds/flu) and not had it stir up Lyme.
Since I don't get fever blisters, I have no experience with topical Lysine or Abreva or Valtrex.

I have used acyclovir for shingles. Shingles is the virus herpes zoster, I believe it's related to fever blisters which are herpes simplex.
At any rate, for me, taking the acyclovir at the first sign of shingles significantly reduces the pain, the size, and the duration of the shingles outbreak.
It may have caused a very mild herx, I'm not quite sure, because the shingles outbreak causes a malaise that feels similar to a herx.
Overall, for me, the acyclovir helped greatly, I couldn't have done without it. Also, my doctor has me take the following for the duration of the outbreak:
Vitamin C - 2,000 mg. 3 times per day Lysine - 2,000 mg. 3 times per day D3 - 20,000 IU per day
Avoid foods that have a lot of arginine such as chocolate and nuts (oh darn, my favorites). Eat foods that have more lysine such as fish, chicken, beef, dairy and eggs (if you can have those in your diet).
Good luck, feel better soon.
