We have been told recently that my daughter is due for the meningitis vaccine.
She is required to have it for school.
What do you guys know about this particular vaccine and it's risks and what can we do to minimize them?
Thanks.

Hi Linky,
Wow, that blows my mind that a meningitis vaccine is compulsory now.
In Canada, about 90 people catch meningitis every year. 90 people in 33 million...sure doesn't seem like a big threat.
All the info I could find said that meningitis is a concern in sub-Saharan Africa. Not North America...
"However The Lancet medical journal reported in 1991 that the Norwegian Institute of Public Health found that the large and robust clinical trials proved the vaccine to have insufficient efficacy to justify its use in a mass vaccination program. [6]."

Why are all of these previously optional vaccines, now mandatory???

Yes, thanks for the info. Pediatrician's office tried to get me to have my ds(age15)vaccinated with this. I declined, but then was told he'd have to have it when he's 18 "because a lot of college kids get it(meningitis) so then he'd be "covered."
Interesting though, because usually when there is a case of meningitis, it's on the news here , and, it hasn't been on the news. Lovely how they try and scare people.

- There are many causes of meningitis. The particular one that seems to pop up at schools can be deadly, very fast. So I do see the concern.
Still, it's a very complex issue and I don't have the energy or skill to say all I would about this dilemma. Vaccines have so many additives and can cause so much trouble, I think most of us here know that.
Still, this particular meningitis is very contagious, can spread quickly & really can be deadly within a day. So, the matter does require careful consideration.
If there is a naturopathic doctor in town, it would be good to consult prior to for possible options and for what can help if the vaccine is to be done, such as asking for one that is mercury-free, and what supplement before and after would be best. =

I wonder if you could get a homeopath for it instead and get a note from the homeopathic doctor that would suffice. I know this can be done when flu vaccines are required.
I am currently taking a homeopathic tincture for lyme meningitis so I wonder if they have one that would cover the strain your daughter needs.
If nothing else you could consult with a homeopath or naturopath as Keebler suggests in order to offset the effects.

I know that the form they are trying to protect them from can cause death or permanent disfigurement. It's scary stuff, but surely there's a better way to protect against it!?
I wonder how rare it really is.
This is why it's mandatory for college students in Texas:

Atta, no homeopaths around here, unfortunately.
Keebler and tutu, thanks for the links.
So, I do want her to have it, just wanted to know how to mitigate the side effects.
I think I saw a link somewhere a while back by Dr Blaylock where he said high doses of D3 can help when getting a vaccine.
Anyone else heard of this?
Thanks for all the info everyone.
