My cousin (former Lyme patient) is wondering what the symptoms of appendicitis are.

She has lower right quadrant pain, severe back spasms and feels really yucky.

No fever.

Could it be?

I'd go to urgent care to get evaluated.

I don't think my brother had a fever, but he had the severe pain in the lower right part of his stomach. That's the only symptom I remember.

Better to be safe than sorry.

IDK Tutu,

I just had extreme pain, but I don't even know if it was my appendix cause when they took it out they said it looked OK,

Modern medicine at its best.

Basically only lower right part of abdomen. No back spasms or fever.

Hmmm.... Keep the info coming. I'll let her know what you guys said.

She's been having back pain anyway, so maybe it just flared up at the same time as the abdominal pain.

At the hospital they asked me if i had nausea or diarhea-i didnt and i didnt have severe pain but it went on for 3 days and i hadnt eaten much cuz i just felt yucky-whole abdomen

They dx it fast...blood test off the wall...fast surg and dic said he never saw such a bad appendix

I think cuz ive had lyme so long it has to be a really bad pain for me to call it pain

You can google for sx

And we do have some nurses here

i believe the pain is supposed to get worse if you move alot, say jump up and down or make a quick motion. I think the pain gets worse if pressed on that specific area.

I had an ER visit many yrs ago where they that thought i had appendicitis. It has been something i have feared ever since. So if i have right side lower pain I move about and see if movement makes it worse or if lightly pressing it makes it worse since I was told those would make it worse.

Could be appendicitis...

Could be bowel obstruction in the LRQ...I've had this more than once and it is terribly painful...but I didn't have a fever...back pain may be referred from abdomen/gut...

Could maybe be kidney stone...?

I'd recommend ER or Urgent Care...

I was told by a nurse (24 hr nurse hotline), if the symptoms were too severe for me to last the night without help, I should go in and get evaluated at the ER or Urgent Care.

they told me at hospital that it would be a pain in one very specific spot in the right or left side of the front abdomen that will get worse and worse and stay in that one exact spot. like a dart was thrown there- not an area of pain.

I hope whatever it is your cousin OK!

Thanks everyone. I don't think she has gone to the Urgent Care or ER yet. It is possible that it's kidney involvement too.

She's been having problems there.

Thanks so much.

Just talked to my cousin this morning. She has packed her bags and is headed to the ER.

Hope they figure out what is wrong. We welcome prayers for her quick recovery!

I am glad she went. You cannot take chances with kidney or appendix problems. Things can get worse very quickly.

OK... She's OK (still in pain) ... and at home now. They want her to see her gynocologist because they think she may have adhesions from past surgeries.

Very possible.

Thanks again for everyone's help. WE appreciate it!

Adhesions can cause serious pain. I dealt with them for years. The other possibility is if she still has her ovaries she could be dealing with an ovarian cyst that ruptured.

They did a CT so I would guess her ovaries are OK. Thanks!

A day late and a dollar short on chiming in here.

Glad your cuz was sent home. If it was appendicitis, kidney stone, ovarian cyst they'd have found it right away.

Hope she feels better soon!

I had terrible stabbing pains in the lower right of my stomach. It felt like a ruptured ovarian cyst (I've had one before). After going to the gyno and urgent care, they still couldn't quite figure it out.

It turns out it was colon spasms of all things. A good GI diagnosed me.

I asked my gynecologist about adhesions, as I've had 3 C-sections and a tummy tuck (long time ago), and was told:

there is no way to know if you have adhesions, although you probably have some, but the only way to know is to cut open again and look, thus creating more. (lovely.)

I do castor oil packs- and have read and also feel the castor oil pack treatments treat adhesions.

Tu, hope your cousin is okay-

A close relative had appendicitis.

Only symptom was transient back pain, up high near the ribs.

The docs kept saying gallbladder.

After almost a month, some bright MD decided to do some blood tests and the markers (whatever they are) for appendicitis were sky high.

Emergency hospitiliazation and appendectomy.

I have had at least 7 surgeries for scar treatment in my abdomen.

Problem is getting someone to believe that you have pain when they can't "see" anything on a scan, etc.

I now have such a history of them the docs believe me. The problem is every time they go in to clean it out it starts making more scar tissue before they have sewed me up. One surgery I had was in September and was back in by November.

So sorry she is in pain, I almost wish they could find something "easy" to take away her pain. Prayers...
