Am I the only one with severe digestion problems with their lyme?
I am not taking abx yet. I just got diagnosed and am hoping to see a LLMD soon.
I have severe (upper GI) heartburn, pressure, burping, gas and indigestion almost always. I do have pain in upper abdomen.
My gallbladder has been removed. So I am sure this makes things worse. I do have candida problems but it is much better than it was.
My tummy is always much worse during PMS week. Sometimes I can't even eat.
I am afraid to start the antibiotics because I know they are hard on the GI and because of Candida.
Am I the only one that seems to have this problem with the lyme.
Thanks my fellow lymies.

Nope...you're not the only one.
I've had endless trouble with my gut, and am currently experiencing a major Gastroparesis (slow stomach emptying) episode and cannot eat or drink anything (am being fed intravenously through a PICC line in my arm).
I've also had indigestion, gas, gastrointestinal inflammation, and numerous food intolerances & allergies...and have had my gallbladder removed as well.
Might be good to try the following:
Dairy free, gluten-free, sugar free diet. This cuts down inflammation, candida, and eliminates a lot of stress on the digestive system.
Digestive enzymes with meals. Can improve indigestion & gas. Ginger (root; make tea, or add the fresh root to various meals when cooking) also can help with gas.
Might also consider avoiding most packaged foods - to avoid GMO's, artificial flavor/color, artificial sweeteners (nutra-sweet/aspartame, etc.), artificial preservatives, and other synthetic food additives that are generally unhealthy and add stress to the body.
Consider adding something like slippery elm bark, marshmallow root, or other mucilaginous herb to help heal your gut.
DGL taken 20 minutes prior to eating can help with reflux/heartburn.
And for the gut during PMS times, I have found no bigger help than homeopathic Pulsatilla.

Yes! I can relate! I had what you describe for about a year steady, and then it resolved on its own. (darn lyme)
Are you on probiotics?
And do you eat wheat or wheat products?
I take 200-400 billion cfus daily of probiotics between my abx.
I found that antacids made my stomach worse.
I can't offer any suggestions, as mine resolved on its own, but cutting wheat and probiotics may be a good place to start.
And I send you lots of good wishes-i understand your discomfort-it was terrible when I had it. Really uncomfortable. Anything I ate felt like the food was boiling in my guts.
Hopefully others will chime in soon.

Bartonella can cause GI issues.
I have had trouble with loose stools ever since a bad experience with Flagyl, and now that I am back on antibiotics, this is getting better.
I guess if it is the lyme/coinfections causing the GI issues, then treating the infections-even with antibiotics- could help with symptoms.
Definitely use a good quality, refrigerated, high count/ many strain probiotic at all times. (and I would take saccromycees, too, or definitely have it handy).
--- just my 2 cents

Vital Nutrients makes a good DGL powder. Perhaps, it would help.
