My mother who is 80 has had an embedded tick in her head and neck several years ago. She follows to the letter what doctors say and what they want to prescribe in medicines for her.
She has had A-Fib, which ended up her having a pacemaker and on A-Fib meds.
She has high blood pressure. She has sciatica problems at times. She has Osteoporosis.
She had high liver enzyme levels and was told she has fatty liver disease.
She was tested for Alpha-1 Anti-trypsin disease.Has that. She has had Collagens disease. Sleep problems.
She has had other minor issues we think are drug related symptoms. Now what is going on.....In April her red blood cells were low, hematocrit low, hemoglobin low.
She continued to decrease until in August she was hospitalized for one week. She was bleeding somewhere but didn't know where.
Finally told her she was bleeding from broken blood vessels in her small intestine. This was cauterized.
Thought we were going to lose her. Had been giving her blood transfusions because she was Anemic.
Strangely so, her iron count is A-ok. After she was released, she was better but now her RBC is low again.
They did a bone marrow aspiration and biopsy and waiting on the results now. The doctor said her issues could be drug related (Had been on Pradaxa and Azathioprine)
They want to start her on Procrit - financially and her past history she feels it is a no. They can't keep giving her blood transfusions.
Feel some of this is lyme related. Any natural means to get the bone marrow working like it should to produce the red blood cells?
She really looks in great health and walks freely when she has the blood transfusion.
She feels like she is looking that this is the end of the line and just letting herself get weaker when it hits and die.
Does anyone know if low Red Blood Cells/bone marrow not working can be caused by lyme?

Has she been tested for babesia? That is another infection you can get from a tick. It is a red blood cell parasite like malaria. I think if it is tick related it is more likely babesia than lyme.
There is also the slight possibility that she could have gotten a babesia infection from one of her blood transfusions. They do not test the blood supply for babesia infections.
When testing for babesia make sure they test both babesia microti and babesia duncani (WA-1).

My mom was just diagnosed wtih MDS. Does anyone know if this can be connected with lyme in any way? She will meet with the doctor on Friday 10/18/13 to talk over what to do. They have already mentioned Procrit but see that some of the warnings are things she already has issues with.

- See here in your other current thread, about MDS. I think it could be Babesia related. At least that might be more "convincible" but tests are not always accurate and there are several strains that are not always considered by regular doctors.
