I bring this up because flagyl has always helped me with BLO (Bartonella) symptoms. In fact it has the exact same success/effect that rifampin does for me.

I take 500mg per day... why pulse it? Why not take it continuously?

It can cause severe depression, it can cause nerve damage. Two pretty good reasons for starters.

Pulsing probably catches the boogers off guard too!

The side-effects of flagyl seem to be related to B vitamin deficiency...

I've been on flagyl for over 2 years constantly (no pulsing) and have no nerve damage or depression. I take B complex and extra B12.

I took 250 mg of flagyl 3 times per day for 2 months straight. That's how I got rid of lyme.

Razzle,
What dose did you take when you were on it continuously?

Canefan,

I just PM'd you, since we aren't supposed to give specific doses on the board...

How does Flagyl help your Bartonella specifically?

I just quit Flagyl 2x a day after only 4 days in a row.
I did get depressed- and my stomach is jacked up.

May go get a CT scan I am that anxious about it.

I did Tindamax 2 weeks on/ off for 6 months before, while on Bicillin - I herxed at first, but not like this Flagyl depression/ anxiety.

Lyme positive PCR blood, and
positive Bartonella henselae Igenex, 2011.
low positive Fry biofilm test, 2012.
Update 7/16- After extensive treatments,
doing okay!

Flagyl gives me bad frontal headaches on day 2 & nausea (tiny bit of anxiety).

But it clears by day 4 or 5 and I feel great.

That's been my experience with it.
It suppresses all of my Bart symptoms. Basically every common bart symptom.

TuTu, I battle chronic constipation- I've managed it for years.
But when it 'hits', I get what feels like a gallbladder attack-

had ultrasound, gallbladder and liver looked totally normal.

I get very bloated (I know, sounds like yeast) GF 100%, probiotics, etc.

But, I've had 3 C-sections- I am scared something is blocked and/ or scar tissue?
And scared to find out.

I am pretty thin- when this happens, I get afraid to eat/ stomach pain, yet my body wants the calories.

My stint with flagyl this week looked like it got parasites, but I'm backed up and very distended- and I know every constipation remedy out there.

So, flagyl has been brutal in this sense for me.
Scared to find out if something else is happening/ surgery.

I got morbidly depressed on the 3rd or 4th day of all of my 2 week pulses. Once I realized the pattern I was able to deal with it. But, the first 3 days I felt euphoric.

And my gut issues are never better than when on flagyl.

Oh, I also wanted to add, I did do 2 months straight early on. I think later it was pulsed cause I was also taking 2 other abx.

Surprise, you probably know, but CT scans give you a LOT of radiation. MRI's are much healthier. But insurance doesn't like to pay for them as much, because they are more expensive---but you can get them though.

For any scar tissue from C-sections, you can either get Visceral Manipulation done (very gentle, check the Upledger Institute), or neural therapy.

sorry, didn't mean to high jack the thread. Just thought I'd mention it.

Aha! I recently have been doing flagyl and got horribly depressed, which may or may not be related, but I didn't realize . . . I'm usually so up on the side-effects, but didn't realize. Sigh.
