Has anyone here been diagnosed with Flexor spasticity? Supposedly brain damaged people, those with spinal stenosis in certain areas, or those with TBI...and M.S. can have this symptom.

This has progressed with me and it basically only happens at night. Whenever I roll over on to my back from my side in a fetal position...my legs would jerk straight out and then my knees would snap up almost to my chest.....like a stretched rubber band was let go.

I especially went to see a neurologist years ago (while i had lyme) for this problem. She was supposedly very friendly to lyme. When I told her about this she looked at me like I was crazy and said...you have much more serious problems like asthma...why are you worried about this symptom? I looked at her in disbelief and said because i think it is a highly abnormal symptom and I was wondering what it was.

I left her office so discouraged...no help at all.I've asked a few more docs and no one knows what I'm talking about. I'm hoping my orthopedic doc will have some answers

Lately I have been having problems with feet and knees...plantar fascitis...etc. Leg muscles are all tight much of the time. Now the spasticity seems to have turned more to severe cramps in feet and legs at night.

Head often feels tight at the same time so I supsect maybe lyme affected my brain somewhere to cause this? Those with M.S supposedly have spasticity. Was rebitten by a tick in early summer of 2013. I also have neck and back pain so am wondering if these symptoms can be caused by spinal stenosis. Sheeesh...what a mess. I just hope it doesn't progress

Anyone else here ever have symptoms like this? I have diagnosed myself with flexor spasticity

sounds awful. i should stop complaining about my little aches and pains.

i hope you find an answer.

i did find when my leg muscles tightened up and i also got restless legs a magnesium supplement called CALM helped a lot. i was already on good mag but my body got out of whack from surgeries i think and igot the tight-spasms

i think calm works cuz it is a liqued and absorbs better than pills. also it says on the package it regulates calcium mag and potassium...

anyway that really helped me

but what you are describing with the snapping knees is not something i have experienced and seems very serious

good luck

Kayak is right on. I was going to say the same thing. Look into magnesium deficiency.

I've had 2 yrs of plantar fasciitis and it is finally getting better after having found an superb mag product called ReMag. It is 100% bio-available and gets right into the cells. It is amazing!

I used to have very tight muscles all over .. especially hamstrings. It is all beginning to calm down after 6 months on this product. The improvement was gradual and now I'm really seeing a difference.

It may not "cure" you, but I guarantee that if you up your magnesium, you have a great likely hood of it really helping you!!

My first bottle of ReMag lasted 4 months. So less than $10 a month! You have to begin very slowly as it is powerful.

Now it lasts me about 2 months. As I get my levels higher (perhaps in another 6 mo) I may be able to get by with less.

I pray I will never be without this stuff!!! My next purchase is ReLyte... the other minerals.

Try the CALM. If you can tolerate it, it should be helpful. I can't tolerate the citric acid in it.

OH... another great mag product is one called Jigsaw. Google that one. It's time released.

www.rnadrops.com for the ReMag and ReLyte

Low magnesium can cause tight muscles, cramping and spasms.
It can cause the alveoli (small air sacs) in the lungs to spasm, causing asthma symptoms.

You'll need to have a good level of Vitamin D for the magnesium to absorb properly.
Has your D been tested?
Are you taking D3?

Don't take mag supplements the same time as calcium, as they can bind together and reduce absorbtion.

Look into treating the spasticity with low dose Dilantin.
See reviews for the book "A Remarkable Medicine Has Been Overlooked" by Jack Dreyfus, at Amazon.com.

A fast way to treat muscle cramping is to use pulsed magnetic energy.
You can buy a PEMF machine, such as the SOTA Magnetic Pulser.

VERY good point, Carol!! I suspect that some of my husband's asthma is from mag deficiency.

And yes, you need Vit D3!!

Calcium is highly overrated.

Definitely on the magnesium.

However, your symptoms sound so exaggerated that I wouldn't give up on finding a more Lyme sympathetic, if not literate, neurologist. I know of one that might help, if you are near enough (PM me).

I wish I could say otherwise, but it does sound like MS (not saying that it is). Of course we know what is usually the cause of that, but if there is any neurological component, that is a big deal.

But do take magnesium over a period of time, too. No matter what the cause, it will likely help, and hopefully a lot.

What we deal with is not to be believed by "normal" people! I'm so fed up with doctors, I could scream! Gee, I'm sure no one else here feels that---ha!

Hi Daystar - I have very similar issues.

It bothers me mostly in the evening or when sitting still for prolonged periods (like on a long airplane flight)

It manifests similarly as you described - I have uncontrollable jerks/spasms in my legs - in many cases it will also works its way up through my torso and into my arms causing much more spasmodic episodes across my entire body.

This progressed from an earlier diagnosis of Restless Leg syndrome - RLS is familial (inherited) and I have plenty of relatives who show evidence of having had it but I think the Lyme exacerbates it quite a bit.

I find it is in better control with Magnesium (as mentioned above), avoiding alcohol and recently for me it has been removing some things (like wheat and dairy) from my diet that I may have had some intolerance too. Exercising, even if a short walk, on a regular basis seems to help a little as well.

I do take a drug called ropinorol (a very small dose of 0.5 mg before bed) that has done wonders for this and allows me to sleep at night.

It looks like there is a whole lot more in ReMag than just mag. Do we really need to supplement tin, copper, etc?

It all sounds lyme derived to me. Lyme and company suck the mag and other nutrients out of us. I think we're all deficient in something--the key is to find out what it is.

I agree with Carol (D-3, and PEMF). I would also work on parasites and heavy metals. My legs used to jerk in bed too, but it has gotten better.
