Hi guys,

Ok, in April, I had to take Flagyl due to a vaginal infection. I flared so badly, I felt like death and couldn't finish out the course of 7 days. My liver was harmed, I'm sure.

Now, I have to go on Flagyl for 5 days for the same type of infection.

Is there any way to prevent the herx from he//?

...and wouldn't you know, it's the same situation as last time. I'm taking an antibiotic break to work on yeast and detox...and I now have this infection.

I've been on a low dose of Mino from Feb-the end of Oct....so, I bet I have plenty of Lyme cysts.

If it was me, I would find something else to use instead of Flagyl. I wouldn't take that one especially if you had trouble with it before.

Flagyl is a very toxic drug and it probably was not a herx that you experienced. It makes lots of people dizzy, nausous and have stomach pain.

What kind of vaginal infection? if we knew we might have ideas that have worked for us.

What about tinidazole? That stuff is the cat's pajamas...

I just saw that New Roots has a FeminFlora probiotic especially made to use with an applicator for direct application to the vagina to restore flora.

I will throw in my .02 cents:

Cut ALL sugar while on Flagyl- or now, since like me, you are trying to heal your gut.

By all sugars I mean carbs and grains.

Start with very small amounts like 1/4 pill and build up slowly over weeks and months. That's the only way I did it. I ended up taking high doses for the cyst form of Lyme, and I surprised myself at how much I could tolerate.

Carmen: I have no idea what kind of infection. I went in for my yearly gyn exam and she looked at a sample under the microscope and said that I had a little infection and wrote the script. I'm assuming it's bacterial vaginosis since I had clue cells during my infection in April. I don't know.

Greta: can that be bought in the US?

Maybe I should email my LLMD's office and ask for help. My Gyn is useless.

I asked her if my hot flashes could be early menopause (because I had a uterus ablation last year) and she said "It's probably all the meds you're on. Menopause starts at 51...you're 39."

Really? Menopause starts at 51? No one has EVER had it earlier?

Wow, this Dr. should go in the Alligator pile on the General thread.

Just wanted to mention Tindamax will treat the infection, it is *basically* the same as Flagyl, but tolerated better by some of us.

Flagyl gave me horrible depression hours, Tindamax did not, but yes, cyst busters are strong for Lyme, I also needed to build up dose.

Yeah throw that duck on the alligator pile.

I hate it when they (meaning "specialists") aren't specific.

I will check tomorrow and see if it is available in the states.

Sorry Lax mom [Frown] That sounds rough. I don't have any advice on the flagyl, but did want to mention coconut oil "down there". It's very soothing and helped me when I had a vaginal infection. *hugs*

Want to add that I may have to start high dose flagyl soon for suspected Cdiff, so we may be in the same boat soon. Aaaaaaah. The fun never ends!

Ok, so I'm taking 1/2 a pill (250 mg) 2x/day to wean up. I'm also taking Zantac and Claritin to prevent any mast cell issues since Zyrtec helped pull me out of the horrible flare in April.

I've taken 3 doses and am ok, except for some very minor chills. I pray that I continue to tolerate it.

I'm still on 1/2 pill, 2x/day and doing ok since I'm also taking the Zantac and Claritin.

Should I stay where I am and not risk it? or go up to the full dose and risk flaring?

I still have 6 and 1/2 pills to go [Frown]
