Hi all:

Can anyone offer some advice on what type of B-12 to take (pill, liquid, patch, injections, etc.)?

My LLMD recommended 5,000 units a day of methylated B-12, but didn't specify anything beyond that.

I had been taking the cheap generic stuff with cyanocobalamin, but just read some disturbing info on that:

http://www.naturalnews.com/032766_cyanocobalamin_vitamin_B-12.html

Thanks!

That's right, you don't want to take cyanocobalamin. If you don't have a positive COMT mutation you can take methylcobalamin. If you feel wired when you take it, then take hydroxy B12.

The best way to take it is with shots. I take a liquid sublingually. I don't know about patches.

Can you take the shots yourself, or do I need to see a doctor for that?

Also, where can you buy them?

Thanks!

I take Perque activated B-12 guard. My LLMD recommended it in his methylation protocol. It contains Hydroxocobalamin.

I use to get the shots, but they were getting expensive and time consuming to go in every week.

I spoke to two doctors and both said the oral kind that you take sublinguilly can be just as good.

You can also give yourself shots. The time I tried that, the doc gave me the b12 and wrote a prescription at the pharmacy for the syringe.

Someone on here also recommended Natural Factors B12 too.

I do the shots myself. Once you get over the fear, it's all good!!

Your Dr can prescribe the B12 vial and then you decide if you want his nurse to do the shots, or you do them yourself.

I only do mine twice a month. I would do it more often but I get tired of doing it! [Wink]

Methyl-b12 sublinguals work great - slowly dissolve for better uptake. Here are the products that I currently use...

* Enzymatic Therapy, B12 Infusion, Energy, 1mg, 30 Chewable Tablets

* Jarrow Formulas, Methyl B-12, Cherry Flavor, 5mg, 60 Lozenges

What is the sublingual mg. equivalent of the "5,000 units" of methyl B-12 my doctor recommended?

1 milligram (mg) = 1000 micrograms (mcg)

Jarrow Methyl B12 is 5mg or 5000mcg

Enzymatic Therapy B12 is 1mg or 1000mcg

I used the IM (intramuscular) shots of methylcobalamin also. Helped with the early-morn periphrial neuropathy (fuzzy limbs) & helped with sleep some, too.

My LLND had me take just 5,000 units every *other* day, in alternate legs, though my LLMD wanted me to be more agressive & take 25,000 daily, like mentioned in Dr B's guidelines.
Got mine from McGuff's compounding pharmacy
(5,000 units per c.c.).

I remember the injections turned my following pee a nice, bright mango orange. ;-)~
