Dx with Tularemia last Wed. Looking for others that has had this and it's relapsing possibilities. How long did you receive treatments and was it injections or pills.

I'm struggling with headaches body aches lots of nausea. I'm taking oral Doxy for treatment. I've been researching it. And there's about 150 cases a year. Most common in Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma and Arkansas. I'm in Ar.

I'm also experiencing dizziness and lightheaded to the point of fainting / passing out. I'm not happy about what I've read on Internet. So Im looking for others that has had this or knows of someone that has. [confused]

OH, Annie! So sorry to hear!

Do be sure to take the doxy in the MIDDLE of a full meal or that nausea will get worse.

Remember not to lie down for an hour after taking the doxy.

There is hope that you will feel better in a few weeks. I know a friend here had it long ago.

I was diagnosed with Tularemia May 2014. LLMD put me on Doxy for 8 weeks. Felt like I was having a lyme relapse but ended up with elevated Tularemia titers. They are still equivicol and sometimes I start feel a bit sick again.

I am in NJ so we are pretty sure it came from a tick bite.

Hard to say what my symptoms were because it felt like lyme and babesia and q-fever to me.....I just could not tell the difference.

Titers can cross react with Brucella I believe or maybe Bart? Not sure which one but it does cross react with another TBI co-infection.

IV Gentamycin is the gold standard treatment but is really tough to handle. Can have relapses when treated with Doxy but was told if it is a mild infection Doxy can take care of it.

I get re-tested every 3 months now and may opt for 2 weeks of IV Gentamycin if my titers do not go back to negative soon.

Thank you thank you for your info. It's a been a real rough thing to battle. But I'm a survivor. I didn't know that I might need to be retested. But I have read that a relapse is common. I will keep you posted as time goes by.

I can't believe I get another tic bite and I end up with Tularemia. Go figure. Drs here are very laid back. But he did tell me many months of treatment. With out treatment it results in death. Slowing attacking each organ.
Thanks again.

I know it is very scary when you look at the mortality rare with Tul. My LLMD did not feel necessary to do the "Gold Standard" treatment due to my titers not being very high and the ill effect of Gentamycin.

Yes, do get retested (well that's what Dr. H. recommends). I could not believe that I got it either! I figured it was a relapse of Q-Fever (another somewhat rare co-infection!), Lyme or Babs. I don't know about you but I just never feel safe anymore in regards to this stuff.

How long are you on Doxy for? How high are your titers? What other TBI's do you have?

I am treating yeast now but not feeling great so don't know if it is a Tul. issue or not so getting bloodwork today. Last time I was not positive but not negative either - been stuck in the equivicol (sp) zone. Scary stuff.

I think you may have misunderstood me. I was saying if left untreated it can have a mortality rate. Also maybe in the last 20 years it may or could have changed and also each individuals health at the time of bite/infection.

Hope she and you are both doing well.
