So after reading through Dr. Joseph Burrascano's paper, "Advanced Topics in Lyme Disease" I noticed that he mentions

ceftin (which I have been treating 1500mg for the past 6 weeks) needs to be combined with something else to make it

work. Is this why I haven't shown any improvement at all?

What does he suggest? Cystbusters??

I wouldn't worry about the 6 wks. It will be like a blip later. It probably helped knock down the keets a bit. Couldn't have been a total waste.

Remember .. You will feel WORSE before you will feel better.

He said ceftin needed to be paired with probenecid to reach high enough levels to kill the Lyme. And I've been treating for 6

weeks with it but have been symptomatic for 6 months.... More wasted time. Maybe my LLMD isn't so LL :/

The Flagyl will destroy the cyst form of lyme.

Rifampin with ceftin should get bart.

Don't feel discouraged... I felt the same when I was on doxy by itself for 6 weeks before my LL added in Tinidazole.

But I have a theory that docs start slow to see what the detox will be like for the patient.

Please don't feel discouraged.

When is your next appointment? Can you enquire about probenicid then?

My next appointment is actually monday so I could ask but I don't know anything about probencid. Also I am kind of curious about

the flaygl because I don't think I have had lyme for more than 2 years so would it even be in cyst form by then?

Hi TBrown

[Smile]

Oh goodness yes! Lyme goes into cyst form whenever it senses a "threat" or in hostile environments.

I used to know the ins and outs with it, but it's went "In" and "Out" already in my lyme brain.

Tinidazole, I know, kills all forms of Bb.

I'm assumuning, but haven't researched it specifically, that Flagyl works similarly.

Two years...plenty of time for Bb to infiltrate all your tissues.

That is great you see your doc Monday.

I don't know much about probenicid either.

Hopefully others will chime in [Smile]

I had my really good progress on Bicillin LA for 3 yrs. Now just using Cat's Claw and taking sups.

I get frequent bladder infections and am treated with ceftin. I herx almost every single time, the only time I don't is if the infections were really close together. So, it's killing something.

I did Ceftin the entire time I was treated but it was paired with other orals like Rifampin, or Cipro, or Bactrim. Also added in IV Clindamycin and of course a cyst buster.

Ceftin was a good drug for me.

It's often started on by itself, as it takes some getting used to, due to higher "G.I. disruption" than other Lyme abx.
Typically, Zithromax (azithromycin) is added in later to increase effacacy.

It wasn't a waste at all.

Sometimes doctors go slow with combining things because they want to see how your body reacts first.

2 antibiotics ALL at once is too much for some folks.

Also, one antibiotic may knock down some symptoms, then the doc can evaluate what's left and know what to add to the mix.

That's what my doc does since my body can be VERY allergic to some meds or have dramatic good reactions to others. It would be impossible to gauge what's doing what if I did it all at once.

You also know that you're not allergic to Ceftin. This is valuable information, especially for when other antibiotics are added.

Saw my LLMD again today. She switched me back to doxy and rifampin. Pretty nervous hope I can tolerate it.
