I wanted people who were using Gideon's Pharmacy to know they no longer compound LDN. They gave me the name of another pharmacy in NY, but it was over $50.00 more expensive!
I called around and found the best price at Belmar Pharmacy in Lakewood, CO, (800)525-9473. They charge $46.00 for a three-month supply and no shipping fees. This is for 4.5 mg tablets, not capsules.

Whaaaat??? I've been using Gideon's for years!!! They have been great! Why?? Does anyone know? That is sad news indeed.
A tablet? That sounds weird. And then it would have fillers, binders, etc.
Gideon's is an old-time, mom and pop type of pharmacy, which barely exists anywhere anymore. They're the real deal. Sad.

My last Skip's order for 30 capsules 3 mg cost $18. Not sure about shipping charge.
I really need to train doc to write 90 day Rx, to avoid so many shipping charges. And maybe switch to Belmar.
The trouble is submitting to insurance. New rules a big hassle for compounds, which is probably why they are doing it. And compounders don't want this extra work. Belmar will charge you to provide this info. My guess is that this is intended to discourage patients from submitting claims for reimbursement of compound drugs.

To make life easier and save on shipping charges, try going to your local (not chain) pharmacy that compounds meds and ask if they can provide it for you. Most are very willing to do it, you just need to ask.
And poppy is right. This is an insurance based thing.
Recently the insurers started demanding to know what was in the compounds, so first they could reproduce the meds themselves and steal business away from local pharmacies. HOGS!!!!
Second, insurers are making pharmacies list the ingredients, but they can only be repaid if the ingredient has a "code" assigned to it.
For example, a medication, bologna extract for sore toes, has 8 ingredients. One is water, another is salt. Another is pickle relish and another is powdered mustard. All of those ingredients don't have an official "code" so they can't be reimbursed for them.
I've heard of a RX compound medication that costs the pharmacy $120.00 to make and they sold it for $135.00, and they were reimbursed that much in the past for it.
But now they only get $8.00 for the same prescription. They had to stop making it, or charge customers cash with no chance the customer can be reimbursed.
AND pharmacies had to change out billing systems, etc that cost a lot of money to supply the same meds they can't even recover costs from when making them.
Yes, blame it on insurers and drug companies and greed.

I always paid Gideon's out of pocket, even though I had compounded meds covered. Their prices were less than 1/2 of the co-pay for compounded meds.
Arghh! I wonder if this is final for them. So sad. I'm so sick of the "powers that be" calling the shots and getting rid of the small, independent providers. The honest ones that aren't trying to make a fortune off of us. Waaah!

My LLMD wanted me to use Leesburg Pharmacy for compounded LDN. I called them to ask a question about it and I did not get a very good feeling that they knew what they were doing.
So I googled them and found an article discussing a tragic error that they made in compounding a prescription that caused a child to die.
