I just started Bicillan shots and I have a painful lump at the injection site. I couldn't even sleep on that side last night.

Any tips on avoiding this with Bicillan shots?

Cool the area with an ice pack before the injections.

Use a heating pad after the injections then take a hot bath after if you can tolerate that.

Sleep with a heating pad if you can.

Yes, the shots can be very painful, but it will heal.

Always ice for some time before and after, it definitely really helps. Really try and relax the muscle before injecting, so you're less likely to tighten the muscle around the needle. If you're physically able to do so, I think it's supposed to help to move around afterward rather than just lying still.

Also, make sure to warm the bicillin between your hands before injection.

The point of heat afterwards is to disperse the med. It's waaaaaay to painful me to walk afterwards.

I'd sometimes have the heating pad on me for an hour or so after.

Apply heat and really massage (deeply) over the shot area and over the whole muscle afterwards. That will help it to be absorbed.

After massaging for at least 5 minutes the muscle should relax, then get up and walk around for at least 5-7 min. I would march in place while watching TV to distract myself!

Once I figured out the deep massaging and marching/walking protocol I didn't get the painful lumps any more. I also rotated my sites between hips and buttocks. That helped too.

If you have old lumps keep applying heat and massage the area deeply to get rid of them by helping the body to absorb the medicine faster.

Sorry you are experiencing this, it is truly uncomfortable.

This is so painful I don't think I can keep taking the shots. My breathing has gotten worse so there isn't any point anyway.

Inject slowly and lying down. I heat before and after I don't ice. Try all strategies.
