Just wondering, the directions say to dilute in a small amount of water, but I find it's easier to take undiluted and it tastes better.....

Yes, it can. And, especially if you find it works better for you and is more pleasant.

(Usually, depending upon brand) The extract form is different from a typical alcohol tincture. It's mainly just very, very condensed berries. It's so condensed that it needs no alcohol (or very little).

I'm curious to know your brand and the alcohol content.

And, it's not a "major target" herb like some that go forth strongly with a big bang - it will not cause any kind of herx if undiluted. It's a gentle support.

I like it better straight, too (but can't remember what brand I've used and am all out). I just shoot the dropper into my mouth. It seems to coat the throat nicely, although, I'd not go to sleep without rinsing my mouth out.

Thanks Keebler. I'm using sambucus elderberry ultra concentrated 5,000 mg from vitacost.com

The ingredients are vegetable glycerin, purified water and citric acid. There's no alchohol in this.

I bought some elderberries from the health food store and will make my own "syrup" if I need it. I have to avoid citric acid. The dried berries keep a long time.

I just made some elderberry syrup as presented on youtube by mountainroseherbs. I made it for a sick friend and it may be too sweet (a lot of honey.) A lot cheaper than buying it bottled.
