Always get your teeth cleaned when you can. Teeth harbor bacteria in all the tarter that builds up. Best to do it twice or at least once a year.
Skip the Xrays if your teeth are pretty good. My doc says every 3 years if already have decent teeth, but don't skip the cleanings.
It should be under $100 just to get your teeth cleaned (mine charges $75).

Mine charges at least 135.
I did a really deep cleaning where she used this tool to tell which tooth was bad and it cost 1500!!!! I had to make payments. Never go again.
This is my regular dentist.

If you will go once or twice a year, you will likely never need the expensive deep cleaning. Just sayin'.

Shop around for a cheaper cleaning. My regular dentist is different from where I get my teeth cleaned.
Just call some local places that got good reviews from friends, yelp, etc... and ask how much it is to get your teeth cleaned.
Ask for the gentlest hygienist in the office.
Not every place requires that you see the doctor first (I've only experienced one place like that).
My friend actually gets her teeth cleaned at different offices BEFORE she makes as appointment with the dentist so she can screen if she likes the office first.

I go 3-4 times usually. My insurance will only pay for 2 a year. But the last few years I was able to go every 5 mths.
But my situation has changed and I'm dealing with a 7 on a very old useless molar that hasn't had a molar above it for 15 years.
Finally scheduled with bio-dentist to do some heavy duty clean up in mouth. Root canal & now this other molar are history.
I haven't had consult with this guy yet, but when I tell him history with these 2 molars, he's going to agree, extraction is the best medicine for you.
Randi, your mouth/teeth are crucial in your total body health. Do not let the cleanings go more than 6 mths.
Periodental disease is a heart breaker for sure. I believe our bad guys doing a lot of hanging out in the mouth and around our years of poor dental fillings and cavitations and root canals.
Great territory for them.

the bio dentist i saw used only salt water to clean my teeth and they got really clean-it was squirted very strongly
he told me the things regular docs use to clean are toxic
since i saw him about 6 yrs ago i have only used salt to brush with. i have had xrays done twice cuz of pain...but there were no cavities...it was tri gem
before that after many yrs of no cavities i hit a time where i was getting many new ones...the regular dentist said it was cuz of menopause(?!?!?!)...kinda like babs i guess
i use the himylayan pink salt and water and so far so good.

I agree on going twice a year. It is a must for me.
Be careful about shopping around for the cheapest. Not all dentists' offices are created equal. You'd be surprised how some offices do not follow safe practices. Your health is of paramount importance!
kayak .. You could try adding a bit of coconut oil to that salt. I bet it would make it easier to brush and bring even better results!
You can also add essential oils to the mix!

I agree with lymetoo.
If you like your dentist and the hygienist who cleans your teeth is gentle and effective-stick with them.
Pay whatever.
I have had some bad cleanings before.
I have had some bad dentists before.
One time to save money I enrolled in a study. Free dental care in exchange for the study...
Yeah, you get what you pay for.
Normally, dentists bill..
They charge by the minute for scaling after a certain time (10 minutes?) so if you go over 10 minutes of scaling, then every increment after costs $$.
If you go twice a year but can keep the scaling to ten minutes (?) or under each time then it is cheaper.
Some places may even be 15 minutes worth for a set price.
You can phone the office and ask the office manager. I do
Also you can say no fluoride.
IMO, it is a toxin.

The cheap hygenist I see is one of the kindest, gentlest, health conscious people I've ever met.
She totally accommodates my MCS and uses no chemicals and makes a point of being scent free.
I actually got ripped off by the expensive bio-compatible dental office. They even put stuff in my tooth that I was allergic to and the filling cracked in less the than a year, it had crystallized and the application was done all wrong (expensive has not equaled better care when it comes to the dentist for me).
Pick whom you're most comfortable with though.

To be honest i had a bad experience with a bio dentist here in th. States but i found a wonderful one in montreal...very competent and cheap comparrd to here
I think the grittiness of the salt is what tskes the plaque off and the salt is anti. Lots of things
I use a lot of coconut oil now to cook with and on dry skin

My husband went to a dentist that a "friend" recommended. He got the worst infection he'd had in years.
I'll stick with my usual. Made appointment for monday.
