Hi <<<<< Lymenet Family >>>>>,

This last late summer, I sprained my ankles, the left worse than the right. Dr. checked the left one twice now [no x-ray, as it doesn't appear ankle broke, tho' it is a bad sprain].

Then end of Oct., I broke my right big toe[most likely chipping the outer lower area of big toe,Dr. has checked it].

Sadly, aggravatingly... Aahrrgghhh... after hurting the left ankle again in Nov. ,I cannot get the left to stop swelling.

If I do clothes, put away a bit of Christmas stuff, go to the restroom etc. it swells right back up.

We are doing ice and heat, and I have a splint/air cast that I put on. Nothing seems to work.

Now since my 'Full moon flu' I am noticing it is worsening, and in my fingers too. Starting to feel somewhat better, but the swelling makes my ankles/knees/legs hurt, as well as bottom of feet.

I suspect, maybe a Bart' flare among other things. I am doing what we can afford as far as supplements,to help w/ inflammation...

But the ankle swelling has been going on since late summer[no LLMD's here, and Silverwolfi's not in Idaho anymore].

Thot's or ideas to help? I cannot just sit w/my feet up 24/7, then my 'hiny 'hurts as much as my feet and all.

I don't mean to complain, between the IC/IBS and the swelling ankles...I'm getting cabin fever.

I missed out on a good thing Berberine wise,so tho' I get to take a product w/ it in,it is not that strong. I use fish oils too for the inflammation,as well as some Turmeric.

Again, not wanting to complain, it's getting to me...I've done some foot soaking also. And I cannot do prescription anti-inflammatory, due to stomach issues, and bowel issues.

Maybe y'all have some ideas, something has got to work. Thanks for any input!!!

'xsasperated Silverwolfi

Have you seen an orthopedic doctor yet? What kind of X-rays have you had?

I know what it's like to be housebound and unable to do much walking. It truly IS a PAIN IN THE BUTT! [Big Grin]

Have you tried changing your diet any? I find that I cannot tolerate the nightshades, nor very many carbs without my feet swelling up.

How much turmeric each day? I take curcumin 3 times a day.

Hope you can become more mobile soon. It is miserable to be stuck inside!

Hi <<<<< Lymetoo >>>>>,

Thanks for the reply and input, finances are still an issue right now [ VA still hasn't gotten TxC's disability claims finalized, finished or figured...aarrgghh.]. So I've only been to the slide fee clinic.

I have been wondering about the nightshade family issues... my dad can't tolerate potatoes much anymore.

I enjoy a baked potato now and again, we've been cutting back, on many foods per TxC's Nutritionists instructions. But no carbs are worth this, I may have to go just veggies, and a bit of meat.

I don't think I am getting enough turmeric,it's mostly in our cooking right now. I don't want to even think what it'd be like w/o the fish oils.

I try not to overdo the breads, [I'm GF for sure], cause even GF bread feeds yeast as well Yeast causes inflammation as I recall.

Dr. didn't order x-rays, but we may have to have some next time I go in.

A few years back I had a bad tendon flare in rt.wrist/thumb, and it was very apparent, swelling and all on X-ray.

Still working on diet, but I need to cut back more. Between LD and Co's, Diabetes, and I'm positive yeast issues too, I guess I need that Nirvana diet... You know...green beans and water!

Thanks for the tho'ts, and input!!! Off I go to research more food info'!!! I get the feeling I am missing something right under my li'l wolfi nose!

After just checking in,on Naomi Anna,s 'pee question' post... I think I better check back in the 'Healing Lyme' books and see if I can beef up my protocol somehow.

Between diet, supplements and so on...I need to find out something to get the bart, borelia, and babs mess under control.

BBL ,TxC jus' got home from Choir practice [Smile] !!

I was just thinking. .. Have you taken a lot of fluoroquinolones in the past? They can cause tendon issues and other pain.

I can no longer take them... at all.

Think Levaquin, Cipro, etc.

Silverwolf - I'm so sorry you are suffering so much and having to go through this on top of everything else!

I saw an ad on tv late one night for "Ankle Genie Boots". You can put them on easily, as they have zippers on the sides. They are like compression stockings, but boots, for ankle swelling and other problems.

FYI - I am not affiliated in any way with this product - just trying to help.

When I googled about them, the reviews said the ordering process is a problem and that they are not available in retail store. Beth, Bath & Beyond would be a good one to go to if they had them, since they carry the "As Seen on TV" items.

You might also want to read the new book out by the top Lyme doc, Dr. H, entitled, "Why Can't I Get Better?". I just started reading it. Maybe some information in it might help you.

I pray every day for my dear son and all those suffering from illness. God bless you and I hope you find the relief you are looking for as soon as possible.

Hi Silverwolf,

We must be pups from different packs. [Smile]

Same ankle story and toe story here.

The toe bugs me the most. Broke it over a year ago-it still acts up.

Was reading that bartonella likes macrophages (sp?), so sites of the body that are inflamed or injured, bartonella will accumulate and colonize in. So that's why sprains and strains in folks with bart take a long time to heal, if at all.

Describes me to a T.

Please be careful with the aircast. I got a clot from mine. The ankle doc said lots of folks get clots from the air casts because they pump it too much. A plain foam boot is best.

I don't have any solutions.

Just wanted to tell you your Canadian wolf sister is limping around with the same thing, wishing pneumatic feet were available for wild critters.

[Smile]

Hi <<<<< Lymetoo,hopingandpraying,and GretaM >>>>>,

Lymetoo, as far as 'quinolones go very limited amount of Cipro, twice I think in about 15 years. I tend to get bad sinus/respiratory infections, that also turn UTI.

And I had a painful cyst some years ago[ pre- Lyme DX ]that took a few different ABX's,

and three rounds of anti-inflammatory meds, which didn't do my stomach any good, but stopped the need for surgery.

I do take low dose Cats Claw daily, I feel really cruddy if I am off it for more than a few days.

I've had sprains and tendon issues, since I was a child. I've probably had Lyme and Co's for over 35 years. We just didn't know what it was until mid 2006.

Hopingandpraying, the Ankle Genie Boots sound wonderful!!! There are some really nice malls close to us, since we moved, so I can see who might be carrying the 'As Seen on TV' type products.

Hopefully once I can get out for a bit, we might could find some for not to spendy a price. The 'Why Can't I Get Better' book sounds helpful as well!!

Greta' Wolfriend[spell check doesn't recognize my new word LOL!!!],wow, the Bart' macropahge thing makes sense.

And isn't it a pain,to hop and hobble to the restroom for IC/and IBS days issues... arrgghhh.

My 'aircast' is just plastic and foam, the Dr. still calls then air casts. My worst problem when I have the splints on is,invariably,my calves will cramp.

And as we know, sudden camping which makes on jump isn't good for sprains/ tendonitis. I am sorry you are having similar issues w/ sprains/tendonitis and stuff.

Now I wonder, let's see, Wolfriends, Wolfisters...have to think of a good descriptive word... hmmm!!!

Meanwhile I'll keep you on my prayer list, Lyme and Co's can be a lot to mange...[oops manage]... er does dry scalp dandruff count as mange...

Sorry, I digress, honestly, my brain rabbit trails... where's my Hossenpfeffer???

Okay, I'll check back in later,if I can stay out of the restroom for awhile, and stay awake [comes of not sleeping well at night.].

Jus' Silverwolfi saying thanks for the input from each replier!!!

I didnt read all above but 2 thoughts

1. About 2 yrs ago in january i couldnt walk from ankle pain. While moving i misplaced my orthotics. Xray showed no break but severe inflam. I couldnt wear the boot cuz it made my hips not work

Getting new good quality orthotics solved the problem

2. Many years ago severe pain in ball of foot was major problem. No tx really helped until i got rifampin. It was one of the hardest meds for me to take but that pain went away and never came back

Take care

Epsom salt foot/ankle soaks can help fight inflammation and encourage healing.

Need magnesium (and potassium, sodium, chloride, calcium) to prevent muscle cramps. Imbalanced electrolytes (usually magnesium deficiency and/or sodium-potassium imbalance) is the usual cause of muscle cramps...make sure to drink plenty of fluids, too...

Homeopathic Arnica Montana, and also homeopathic Ruta Graveolens may be helpful also. Both should be the pellet (or tincture) form you take under your tongue for best results. Homeopathy is usually inexpensive compared to other stuff...

Arnica is for injury, even old injuries, and pain. Ruta is for the torn tissues, to help speed healing and reduce inflammation.

You may find alternating between the foam brace and an ace wrap to be more comfortable... This was my case when I had a sprained foot...

Make sure you are getting enough Vitamin C, also - this is needed for the connective tissue to heal, and it is also highly anti-inflammatory. Some people seem to need doses as high as 3-6000mg/day (divided doses)...but increase slowly until you get to "bowel tolerance."

Magnesium...did I mention Magnesium? (LOL!) Very important for all sorts of stuff...

MSM - sulfur is needed for tissue repair, and is also a natural anti-inflammatory.

I get a lot of my own supplements and homeopathy from http://supersup.com - free shipping if order over $49

If supersups doesn't have something I want, I look for it at http://vitacost.com

Jus' Silverwoliolfi here,

Trying to catch up... thank you to <<<<< each one who replied >>>>>.

Still trying to find my brain, since a prescription med' did my digestive tract, intestines and bowels in... still fighting abdominal pain.

But I hope to be able to get out a few minutes this weekend...I've been housebound most of January, w/ ankle/and gut issues.

I am researching more on natural anti-inflammatories... and we'll see what I can fine that is affordable for me.

BBL trying to get some laundry done.
