Hey, found this link on the CanLyme forums,
Shows different types of WML, but scrolling through compares different types of lesions and also shows Lyme Disease and compares it to other WML. (The intro write up about lyme is partially incorrect, but the point is the MRI images)

It also shows what normal aging white matter lesions look like... so the next time some dipstick tells you your lesions are just a part of aging, compare them to Normal Aging examples and see if they really are.
So my big questions for the neuro ducks... if "migraines" do enough damage to the brain to cause WML/scar tissue...why isn't the root cause of migraines being investigated. One would think it would be high on the "Let's figure this out" list.

Great find Greta. I have a stack of about 10 or so old MRI films from hubby. Maybe I will dig them out.
Not sure I believe the statistic quoted which said only 1 in 100,000 lyme patients has MRI lesions.

Nice find GreataM! - Lymetoo, I vote to have this moved to (Medical "under" - Important Imformation On Lymr & Co's).
I hope I can find my MRI. They told me MS, then changed it to aging - wouldn't even discuss LYME DISEASE!!! What else is new...

I agree- 1 in 100, 000 is WAY off mark.
If we took the stats for MS, bacterial encephalitis and lyme, plus abnormal aging WML, perhaps we'd get a bit closer to the real numbers.
I don't want to sound like a Lyme Loony here, but if the ducks are explaining away WML on migraines and ageing, in an extremely fit (used to be) 30 year old (used to be), we have serious under reporting here.
Considering that the 5 youngish patients who went into the office before me got the same migraine treatment plan I did...
Quack quack... into the pit for you.

Good that it was recognized lyme can be associated with white matter lesions. However, since they apparently have not identified an adequate number of patients (judging by that statistic), then the variation might be greater than they realize, and might overlap with other causes. In other words, not just one pattern would be typical of lyme. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. Won't know until more lyme patients are diagnosed and have an MRI.

Study shows chronic lyme patients more likely to have abnormal result using SPECT scan, rather than MRI.
"Patients considered to be seropositive and those considered seronegative had similar rates, types, and severity of perfusion defects."
"Treatment with antibiotics, especially those with intracellular-penetrating activity, resulted in resolution or improvement of abnormalities in 70% of patients over a 1- to 2-year period."
