Hi all! I had my first dental cleaning a few days ago in years. Of course I need a ton of work and have plenty of decay in my mouth, which I'm trying to address.
Since I've had this done, I've had a persistent headache, nausea and dizziness. I'm currently taking tindamax which leads me to my question.
Could the cleaning being done have caused me to herx, open up pathways that the tindamax is now getting to and bringing on this reaction?
I didn't know if it was possible and wanted to ask if anything similar has happened to anyone else.
I'm having more work done (a few fillings, no metals), so I'd like to be prepared for the future onslaught of more possible reactions.
Plus it's still nice to know if this is what's causing this. It's really uncomfortable.
Thanks in advance!

There was a time when I would not feel well for a couple of days after a dental cleaning. I was not on Lyme treatment then. From what I understand, it is an immune system reaction to the flushed out bacteria that was in your mouth. So not a herx so much as a flare, maybe?
The nausea may be from the Tindamax. It bothers my stomach after a number of days.

- I would not call it a herx but, indeed, such an ordeal certainly can cause "payback" just from getting to the appt., all the sensory overload, the excertion (sp? I tried all ways) of it all.
Adrenal support is ever so much important now, and REST. Cardiac support, too.
For work to to come, be sure they use a numbing agent that does not contain ephinephrine. And, then also be sure your liver support is on board.
You will need to PLAN REST BEFORE & AFTER. Do what you can to make it more pleasant, take your own music, you own sunglass if they cover enough of your eyes (the sunglasses they give you are so "warpy")
Even just the fluorescent lights there can undo me -- and they really need their lights, so if you have your own full coverage sunglasses, as least your eyes will be a little happier.
Epinephrine is in many anesthetics (not sure about anesthesia, though). Some discussion on why epinephrine (EPI) can be a rough ride for someone with lyme (especially if they have adrenal issues):

- The "exercise intolerance" detail here may apply. ANY exertion can count for those with lyme. The cardiac support like HAWTHORN can help. With ADRENAL support, before & after, too.
The various nervous systems that are affected by lyme are also very much stressed out by the physical activity and sensory challenges. Some of the same supports for adrenal and heart can help there, too.
Be sure you are getting good fats. They are essential for the nervous tissue and functions.
LIVER & KIDNEY SUPPORT & and several HERXHEIMER support links, too. -

- SOUND can be trouble at the dentist but do not wear ear plugs as that can make it so much worse by trapping noise inside when the bones are vibrating.
Not much can be done to offset the noise coming through the bones as they work . . . however . . . be sure to shore up with support methods so your body is more able to be relaxed.
External ear muffs and noise cancelling ear muffs will help offset the outside noise, if small enough to not mess with the way your head can be steady in the "cradle" are best.
If you have hyperacusis, be sure to tell them. Same with tinnitus. They would need to make some accommodation by stopping often. Schedule a longer time for noisy procedures.
Good ear support here and some dentist appt. tips here:

- The ADDITIVES in the cleaning paste can also cause a lot of symptoms. The fluoride, too, it is a neurotoxin.
Now, rest, support and you will likely feel better in a few days.
Hopefully, you avoid all this in your diet but when you get hit with an intense "dose" of various "excitotoxins" that can certain spin your world off its axis.
I am sure they use artificial sweeteners, flavorings and dyes. Unless you made prior arrangements.
