I am going at least three times a day. I call it diahrrea. The stools are formed but very mushy and sometimes its just a floating mass.

I'm taking probiotics.

Flagyl 1000 augmentin 1500 is a big dose.

Any way to firm up stools?

I too have noticed a significant change in my bowel habits this week on Augmentin for a sinus/throat/cough thing that has lasted a month...i'm happy with the result though...the stool is formed/semi-formed and i go well once or twice a day....not really diarrhea...
i am taking a probiotic too

i've always been rather constipated, sometimes going days without a BM, so this is something i can live with....but i took my last Augmentin this morning so I expect a change this weekend...

back to prune juice...

randi, take Florastor. You can get it at WalMart. It will definitely firm up stool.

I got c. diff when an ENT put me on a high dose of Augmentin in 2012 (1,000 mg 4 times per day!). It started about a month after I stopped the Augmentin. So, I strongly recommend you take one Florastor per day in addition to your probiotic.

The gastro who cured me of the c. diff. told me to take one Florastor per day. It is good stuff.

Take it for a number of weeks after you finish the Augmentin. My lyme doc suggests taking it for 1 month after finishing the antibiotic.

Augmentin did the same thing to me early in my treatment, and I eventually stopped taking it after six weeks. The "clav" portion of the mix apparently didn't agree with me. No other ABX since has repeated the experience.

I also second taking Florastor. I think I recall Lymetoo saying that Floristor could stop Niagra Falls. Work up to 4 capsules a day then back down as you return to some normalcy.

On florastor, critical care, align and culturelle.

Dr said it was ok to take them all together.

Probably OK at same time, or just rotate to get the widest variety of cultures.

I take VLS#3 DS and Florastor at same time most days.

Although its OK to take just Florastor with your ABX because of the SB strain.

Florstor is pricey in stores....best cost I see is at LuckyVitamin.com or PureFormulars.com around $37.xx per (50) capsules.

I researched and costco is absolutely cheapest. Beats even walmart.

Argh. I'm sorry Randibear.

It sounds like you're on the right track with all the probiotics! [Smile]

Can you try some "prebiotics"

Like cooked brown rice, applesauce, bananas?

The type of fibre in the above helps the probiotics "cling" and stick around to repopulate.

Augmentin will do that to ya. Flagyl too at first, for me, but over time I think it helped my stomach.

New Chapter Super Critical Omega 7 (no, it's not a fish oil) works fabulously well!!. It's sea buckthorne, which rebuilds mucous membranes and the lining of the gi tract. Take 2 before lunch and dinner for 3 days, then cut it to 1. 3 days and you should be good.

You can get it online in many places - Vitamin Shoppe always has it in stock in the store and online.
