I haven't drank since I got pregnant with my son over three years ago, lyme symptoms happened to start like two weeks after he was born.

I know I have heard alcohol is bad for lyme and it really hasn't been an issue since I am not really a drinker anyway.

My husband and I might go out for valentines day and I was just wondering, What would happen if I just had one glass of wine? Would it make me sicker??

You probably would not feel well the next day or maybe several days.

The biggest hit will be from the yeast.

Continued drinking would cause even more problems, but it sounds like you are not "going there!"

Have a great time together!

I agree. Unless you're on flagyl or tindamax, enjoy that glass or two of vino!!

Enjoy your dinner out with hubby!

You would get to feel like a normal person. (Normal meaning healthy.)

I tolerate occasional alcohol just fine. Some don't tolerate it at all.

You are a grown-up and get to make this decision.

Happy Valentine's!

You will know in the first couple of sips if it is not for you.

I have three sips of any alcohol now and I get full face flushing weak legs instant headache etc ect. Basically hangover.

You will know.

If you feel OK after the first few sips, OK after half a glass, you should be OK with one glass.

Just be prepared you may be pretty buzzed, and also lymetoo is right about yeast flare.

Have fun.

If you're going for full tilt, don't forget to eat some chocolate dessert too [Smile] yum!

It's hard to know how it could affect you. Assume as others mention you are not taking flagyl in any form / generic as that would definitely be out of bounds then.

Your balance could be affected even by a little, so be very careful to wear sensible shoes so you can walk out of the place under your own steam.

Also be aware that you may not feel so well . . . start with just one sip and see how you do. One more and wait a bit before charging in.

If WITH a good meal or afterward, that will be best. Not before, though. You need some good food to help pull it off. Liver support on board is important, too, but that always is. Water, too. Drinking some water fairly soon afterward will help prevent any irritation of the esophagus that is often inflamed for us.

Whatever you decide, though, enjoy the ambiance, the food, and the romance. Enjoy your time together.

A light fruity white wine (with less sulfites) might be more easily tolerated than red (although reds are so much more complex). Still, your body may not "recognize" a special day or holiday and feel better playing it safe.

I agree. Go for it. If you decide not to... Ask for a glass of sparkling water in a wine glass with a splash of cranberry juice... It won't feel like wine but it will look like a sparkling rose. I used this trick at work gatherings while on flagyl.

gigi, some day you will be able to drink a glass of wine and just feel the calming effects from one harmless glass.

You will know when that time is. Or you will experiment and realize the time is now or no not today.

I can do one drink, margarita is my fav. I still do extra chlorella afterwards and liver support.

For me that fav drink is worth it maybe 3 times a year for the last 5 yrs. White Wine is something I will do during Thanksgiving or another holiday.

I can drink more than one glass. But yes, I again have to really mop up with detox and liver support.

It literally took me 10 yrs to get to that point. But we are all different. Our livers are not in the same place. Our tx protocols are not the same. I'm not a abx user.

I just dream about letting loose every once in a while and not worrying about it...but I almost 95% of time stay with water, my drink of choice.

I love sweet tea, here in the southern states that is the drink of choice. I wouldn't drink a soft drink if it was the only option, but sweet tea, OMG. I've even kicked it out of my once a week out to dinner option.

Because it's always large glasses and of course I would say yes to free refills. Water with lemon, so boring and just not the same. Oh well, some day maybe.

Here's a toast...gigi, I hope you get to have the fine taste and feelings of a nice glass of wine soon.

Pam

Thank you for all the tips everyone!! If I feel up to it I might just have a few sips and see how it goes. Definitely don't wanna get drunk or anything near that but it would be nice to do something a normal person can do. [Smile]

Pam... Being a Texas girl, I grew up on sweet tea and cokes. I NEVER thought I would be able to drink unsweetened tea, but it is now my favorite!

Taco Bell accidentally gave me sweet tea at the drive-up a few weeks ago and I nearly gagged! I handed it right back!

Had to laugh at myself for NOT liking sweet tea! Who would have thought? [Roll Eyes]

I've tried Tutu, might as well drink water with lemon wedges. Yum yum.

Of course before I got my education, I drank unsweetened tea and added artificial sugar to it and my coffee, lots of coffee at my desk to keep me going?????

It took years IMHO to get that toxic matter out of my body. If I even did get it all out? I wouldn't put a "sugar free" product in my mouth or an artificial sweetner in my system for all the money in Texas.

That's a lot of money folks. Now I've had unsweetened teas at Panera Bread and those are the flavored iced teas and they are ok. I like unsweetened hot teas, so many I will try to adapt my tastes.

I never thought I would be doing or not doing any of my things I do today to survive.

If any of your meds say do not drink alcohol then don't drink it.

If not, I would have a drink or two. Remember, evryone is different - some can't take alcohol at all, and some have no problem.

Have fun, and enjoy your meal and your night out!

If don't have adrenal problems and you are not on Flagyl or Tindamax a very occasional glass of wine will probably be okay.

Definitely do not drink any alcohol while on flagyl or tindamax.

You may feel wiped out the next day and find that your body doesn't tolerate it. If that's the case then you will probably decide that it's not for you right now. Also, try to choose a wine that is on the dry side, it should have a lower sugar content.

I love sweet tea and still slip up occasionally, it is soo good! I too drink water all day everyday. It took a while to get used to it as a chronic coke drinker but now I love my water and can't be without it! I do love hot green tea unsweetened too, It is a nice change.

PS, DogsandCats I love your post script, I had a manx cat with a bobbed tail for 10 yrs, so adorable and sweet, great personality, I love her so much. It makes me happy to think she will be waiting for me one day.

A note of caution about carbonated drinks, even just fizzy water. The carbonation can be very caustic to the lining of the stomach. Sigh.

I really wish I could enjoy fizzy water with a dash of lemon, etc. but, really, carbonated water is not good for the inside of anyone's stomach. I was so sorry to learn this but it really helped me get my stomach back.
