Just got my March, 2014 issue of Life Extension magazine. It has the best explanation of white matter brain lesions I have ever seen.
They did leave out infections as a cause but do discuss multiple causes including hypertension, decreased brain blood flow (hypoperfusion), elevated homocysteine, endothelial dysfunction, metabolic syndrome (insulin insensitivity), mitochondrial dysfunction, and platelet dysfunction (hypercoagulation).
Supplement suggestions listed for each cause listed above.
Quote -- The larger the volume of brain involved in leukoaraiosis, the worse a person's cognitive function is -- even before they become aware of it.
Leukoaraiosis also increases risk for stroke, cognitive decline and dementia, while interfering with normal gait and balance, eventually leading to greater risks of falling.
Indeed, leukoaraiosis seems to correlate with most of the changes we've always associated with brain aging -- except that it appears to be preventable and even reversible. -- End Quote

Thank you for that link. I book marked it for reference.
I think when you have a serious biofilm producing pathogen, ordinary supplements do not make much difference. Sad but true.
I have tried most of those supplements for extended periods of time without improvement. I am still trying new remedies as well as diet and drugs. It is a battle to save my mind.
What I believe might be helpful is liposomal EDTA. It provides the most essential fat required by the body. When it is taken into the biofilm, the EDTA is released to do it's job binding with heavy metals as well as the iron and magnesium that is used to build the biofilm.
EDTA will bind with heavy metals before binding with minerals and will release the minerals if it encounter heavy metals - so you have to get most of the metals out before you can make a serious dent on the biofilm.
As I am getting essential fat, I can severely restrict the fat in my diet, which really does help. I have gotten fat binders to help.
B vitamins are helpful because of the methy cycle mutations.

Thank you, Bea, for posting this. I read it with great interest, particularly because I did another brain MRI last July and had a horrifying report and film/CD .
Where I once had a number of hyperintesities that looked like MS, but were clearly from the Lyme, I now have 40-50 lesions PER HEMISPHERE!!!! Plus, a severe plaque load all throughout the brain. "Severe disease burden," the report says.
Why it got so much worse in a relatively short time, I don't know. But I also have a LOT of symptoms that are much worse, that are clearly from the damage to the CNS. It's very sobering, and I am in a lot of despair about it.
Yes, I, too, have taken, and still take, many of these supplements---but not all of them. I'm fighting this battle mightily over so many, many years, but feel that I am losing the
battle. I have to keep picking myself up off the floor to keep on fighting it and trying to keep hope alive, which is very difficult.

Thank you for this, Bea. It was a very interesting article and well written so most could understand it. I have had one white matter lesion found the past few MRI's and know that I have hypoperfusion and high homocysteine levels.
The information on supplements to combat these conditions is very helpful. I also have bookmarked this for future reference.
