everything I have read says LDN causes insomnia??? I'm so confused. He says my insomnia is so bad because my cytokines are so high. I'm sleeping about 4 hours every other night (no sleep on the off nights) which is better than it's been in a couple of years. Obviously I'd like it to get even better but I'm so scared to loose the 4 hours that I do have.

Parasites cause insomnia more than anything else IMO. My husband finally got rid of his insomnia after 4 years of lyme treatment couldn't do it when he finally started treating parasites with the CD baby bottle protocol by Kerri Rivera. That protocol also works for lyme.

Sounds like Bartonella.

When I have Bart under control I sleep great. When I don't... my sleep immediately becomes disrupted.

I was not able to take LDN at night, even a half dose because of the insomnia. Apparently some people tough it out and are able to get past this stage, but not me. So, I take it in the morning, which some say is not a good time. Oh well, three weeks of sleeplessness was enough for me.

There are other explanations for insomnia. Can't remember them right now. Seems like it has something to do with cortisol levels. Maybe others will recall.

I agree with all of the above.

I love LDN... Love it love it love it.

But... As for helping with insomnia...no, if anything, it makes sleeping more disrupted because of the vivid dreams.

Treating bartonella helped my insomnia the most, leaps and bounds.

Before lyme dx, Wormwood, black walnut and clove, during the day, L'ornithine at nightime, helped with sleeping.

Sorry you are suffering so with insomnia. Insomnia is terrible! It truly is!

My LLMD also says that insomnia is caused by inflammation from cytokines.

LDN is supposed to help with inflammation so that is why your doctor probably prescribed it.

I just got a script for it, but the pharmacist told me I could take it in the late afternoon to avoid the insomnia.

I haven't started it yet as I have been too chicken. Really worried about not being able to sleep as well as I am finally sleeping ok now with just some help of melatonin.

GretaM and oceangirlSA - would you mind telling me the exact brand and dose of L'ornithine and melatonin that have helped you? I have such chronic insomnia that nothing I have tried has helped. I've done OTC, herbals, even heavy prescriptions and still no sleep. I've tried melatonin before but maybe a different brand/dose might help and I've never tried L'ornithine unless of course it's an ingredient in one of the many things I've tried. I think the only people who truly understand real insomnia are the people here!
