So I don't think any of us are too shy here to discuss this....how many of you live with loose stools/multiple trips to the bathroom a day from your antibiotics. I have been on antibiotics oral and im for 6 monthes and this has become an ongoing thing for me for the past three months. My doctor doesn't seem too concerned as long as my stools are not way too frequent or actually watery. I got the impression it was somewhat normal.

I take a high quality probiotic ( two different kinds) and I take sacromycees boulardi too. I know of people who have been on antibiotics for 5-10 years. How do they do that? I am not sure if that is going to be an option for me.

Is this normal for many of you?

Did iv antibiotics help take the stress off your gut?

Hi River,

I've been on 4 plus antibiotics since April 2013.

Have been eating low carb/low yeast, and lots of kefir as my bedtime snack.

I also was taking 400 billion cfu per day of mixed culture probiotics.

I was doing OK until I switched my probiotics for the ones my doc recommended...and then started mepron.

Now every morning I have a tummy ate with bloating.
No gas just an expanded belly.
And withing 20 mins of waking up I have major urgency to go.

When I do it is not diareha, but unformed.

I find this very frustrating.

I am making beet kvass today to see if that will help.

I'm also stopping oral abx and complaining to my doc about this at my next appt. Haha.

Please be sure to eat a low carb, sugar free diet. Are you taking the probiotics at least two hours away from the abx???

What is the CFU count on the probiotics? Maybe you are not getting enough?

Believe me, no one here is afraid to talk about poop! [Big Grin]

Thanks for the feedback- A lot of times I take the probiotics at night when I wake up because it is the farthest away from my antibiotics. If i take them during the day I definitely space them out from my antibiotics. I think my probiotics have like 50 billion. I am not at home right now or I would look. I am at the acupuncturist with about 50 needles in my legs. Lol. I take two different types of acidophilus and I take both types together 2 times a day. How many do other people take and what potency?
Thanks!!

Greta,

Might be good to go back to what you were taking before to see if the abdominal distention settles down...

River4,

I'm one of those who can't handle much probiotics, so I was only taking 20 billion (and doing fine with that) once a day (at night before bed).

I also found using herbs to help cut down on yeast/candida helpful.

River... I think a general rule is to take around 100 billion CFU's per day. It is good to space them out and VERY smart to take them at night.
