so this is my story: I met a new lyme nurse practioner who saw me once a few weeks ago. put me on some supplements. I have an appointment with her this upcoming Friday and I received a call today that I need to make an appointment with their "health coach" for 175.00 for a diet that is low anti-inflammatory because I also have RA that my RA doctor told me to take plaquinal.

They started they do not want me to take plaquinal and that it can be controlled with a diet.

I am on a fixed income, which I explain, and when I told her I wasn't sure I can afford it, she replied " then you cannot keep the Friday appointment with the LLNP because you are not abiding by our contract"

Any input on what happened today would be greatly appreciated. I almost felt like I was being black mailed.

I agree. Unfortunately, Lyme patients are high need patients. This NP has decided that to work with Lyme patients she needed to delegate life style changes to a health coach. I would not be able to afford it. Nor would I want to pay it if I could afford it.

There are people who get better without Life style changes. Others need it. If you truly have RA and it is not the Lyme, the Plaquinel would be appropriate and diet can help but not deal with all of the inflammation involved. imho.

From what you have written, it sounds like you need a new Lyme doc if you are not going to see the life coach.

thank you very much. I am not going there again. I cannot afford it and they are really new to the lyme world just in the past two years. I think I will stick with my lyme doctor who has been doing it for over 20 years.

I hope I am not to too late to comment on this.

While I like the concept of treating the WHOLE patient, what I have a problem with is the manipulation between practice policies and the patient. Unless this was explained to you ahead of time, it hardly seems fair to spring it on you now. And I don't think it should be a deal-breaker in treating a sick Lyme patient.

There's all kinds of Lyme diets for free on the web. Or you can go to your nearest library and have acess to the latest Lyme diets published.

Lyme disease has taken away most of our finances. There's only so much we can afford. If it were me, I would keep your Friday appointment. I would also make the health coach appointment. . . BUT make that appointment for the following week. Then don't go. This way you'll have your month's worth of scripts for meds and have no disruption of treatment until you can get into another LLMD.

Sorry you are running into all these roadblocks Linda.
