I was able to convince my pcp to give me a script for doxycycline, but only enough to dose 400 mg/day for a week, and a script for tinidazole, which I can't afford to get filled here. It will hopefully only be 10 days to get enough meds to run a 4-6 week course.

So... should I just take what I have now and then start a full course when I get the rest?

I worry about pushing the bacteria into cysts with just abx and don't want to make something worse for myself down the road.

It was a deeply embedded deer tick I pulled out 40 hours ago, it could have been there up to 8 hours. So far the bite area looks okay, but there is warmth and some lymph swelling in the adjacent areas (bite is on my front up close to armpit). Thanks [Smile]

I would start right away since you just got bit. Your window of opportunity is very short.

Can you get flagyl instead of the tini?? It should be cheaper and it does the same thing.

WELCOME!! [Smile]

I would start ASAP too. The tinidazole (for me) was used later on to take care of any cysts that formed (from doxycycline or otherwise).

Also, doxycycline will target co-infections like rocky mountain spotted fever and others.

Thank you for the welcome and the replies [Smile] . I started the doxycycline earlier this evening, I don't think my doctor would be willing to prescribe anything else at this point. Hopefully this will cover this incident without anything new that lasts.

I have a lot of symptoms that continue to worsen over the years that I have always thought might be fibro, so I'd kept my head in the sand about it. The thought of having a tick borne disease never lingered on my mind. I must say the realizations of the last couple days has been eye opening for me, and I'm glad to have found this place as a resource.
