My son went in for a physical (not a llmd) and to get the required vaccines for college.
They tested to see if he was immune to mumps, and the test came back saying he needed the vaccine, even though he had been vaccinated twice as a child.
Not sure if he would need the MMR or if there is a vaccine for the mumps alone.
The result of the test was borderline or at the very bottom of the acceptable range.
So, what to you all think? I hate for him to have the shot, but apparently, the college campuses are seeing outbreaks of this.
Also worth mentioning, he had a Hepatitis A which was required for an out-of-the-country mission trip, and has tolerated it well so far.

I had lyme for quite awhile, but it was 'under control, in remission, more or less'.
10 years ago college wanted a MMR shot before admission.
Long story short, the MMR shot triggered lyme to reactivate and go nuts within my body and I've never been able to get back to the point I was health-wise 10 years ago.
Not trying to scare you, but I couldn't live with myself if I didn't share. Maybe my suffering can prevent somebody from going down the same road I have.

There must be some money making scam with this MMR vaccine. Why is it so readily available and being pushed on people. I'm too jaded to believe its appearance is due to health concerns.
I started working at a hospital and obviously they check to make sure you've been immunized. My medical records showed that I had two vaccinations as a child for MMR and the nurse said they like you to have had three now and that I'd need another. I needed to start work so I went along with it.
I had no prior knowledge of ever being bitten by a tick or of having lyme but after getting that MMR booster I have been horribly sick. The first 3 years were absolutely awful, these past three I've learned to manage but am no where near as healthy as I was before.
I only just found out that my illness is due to Lyme. I was initially diagnosed with an autoimmune blood disorder called ITP. I have asked Drs in the past if he onset of my illness could have been related to he MMR vaccine. They obviously would just raise an eyebrow at me, with the your probably crazy look, and reassure me that there was no way a vaccine would effect me like that. Even though it is documented that babies can develop ITP after an MMR vaccine.
ITP causes your platelet levels to crash making you susceptible to internal and external bleeding with brain hemmorage, in my opinion, being the scariest threat.
On the upside of this for me my platelet count recently went up, they doubled, with my recent round of doxy.
I don think it's worth it in my opinion to get the MMR vaccine again. I wish I had known to ask the nurse to test my blood to see if I had the immunization...
I think the low level of the acceptable range is adequate. He's still in the acceptable range so I don't think you should be worried, in my opinion.

We have decided not to vaccinate, just too many risks involved with this one.
