An eight year-old boy who was diagnosed with lymes disease two years ago - treated with 21 days of antibiodics - is now blinking his eyes involuntarily. His doctor says it is transient childhood tic. He has also been clearing his throat in a similar manner - in an ocd way.

I know that the bacteria target the nervous system. Please advise on ways to stop this nervous system damage and heal the nerves. Anyone with similar stories would very helpful. I have lymes disease and was asked to do some research for a friend. Thank you very much.

Hi Christine,

Those two ticks are classic Tourette's ticks. Many people think strep is to blame for Tourettes.

21 days of antibiotics is not thought by LLMD's to be adequate treatment for lyme and this child need to see a lyme literate health care professional as soon as possible.

Lyme and strep can cause a PANDAS and cause lots of damage.

Please encourage that family to get good medical help immediately.

"His doctor says it is transient childhood tic."
Oh geeez.

Here is a website that may help.
http://www.ctds.info/sitemap2.html

This mom figured out that her son's tics were related to low magnesium.
She has some good suggestions for diet, including which foods keep magnesium from being absorbed, making the deficit worse.

How to Have a Diet Richer in Magnesium
http://www.ctds.info/magdiet.html

Many of the symptoms of Lyme Disease are related to low magnesium, because the Lyme bacteria live in our cells and use up our mag.

Eat foods high in magnesium:
Dark chocolate
Almonds, almond butter
Beans, kidney beans, baked beans, refried beans, bean soup, bean burritoes.

Even before I knew what was wrong with me, I realized that I felt a little better when I ate beans.

My 7 yo son had exactly the same presentation recently - a blinking tic following Lyme disease 2 years ago. What was the outcome for your child? We are only starting to deal with this now...

And perhaps head over to the ACN PANS/PANDAS/Lyme forum as well.

http://latitudes.org/forums/index.php?showforum=17

Our daughter's Tourette's symptoms (both motor and vocal tics for more than 1 year) resolved with bartonella (a possible coinfection of lyme) treatment.

--------------------
13 yo DX PANS/Tourette's/Asperger's/ADHD treated for Igenex positive bartonella/IND lyme with 2 years of abx treatment. Weaned off abx April 2013 at 80% improvement. Continuing with Buhner bartonella/babesia protocols. Aug 2014 99% improvement.
