I've searched through the history to find info on this abc combo. I've seen that others have taken them together.
My new doc put me on them. I'm wondering what is it for? I haven't gotten my coinfection test back yet so I'm assuming it's for long term lyme. Is that correct?
Is it commonly prescribed for neuro type issues? Or some other set of symptoms.
Is it an old school approach?
Just wondering if there's any info or history behind it.
The older posts mostly discuss effectiveness and side effects.
Thanks for your help!

This combo is used to treat lyme disease.
If you search the Burrascano Guidelines using the generic names of these meds, you will find this combo discussed at the bottom of page 14 as follows:
"It has been suggested that when Bb is within a cell, it is held within a vacuole and bathed in fluid of low pH, and this acidity may inactivate azithromycin and clarithromycin. Therefore, they are administered concurrently with hydroxychloroquine or amantadine, which raise vacuolar pH, rendering these antibiotics more effective."
Biaxin is clarithromycin and plaquenil is hydroxychloroquine.
To search the Guidelines, get the document on the screen, click anywhere near the top of the document, and hit Control+F. A search box will appear. Type in the search box the term you want to look for and hit "enter." That will bring up every instance of the word in the Guidelines.
That's all I can tell you about this combo. My lyme doc never used it on me. The very first doc I went to for lyme gave me Biaxin, but I was unable to take it. Many people take it, however. You should find posts where people say they made good progress on the Biaxin.
The plaquenil is necessary to make the Biaxin more effective, as the Burrascano quote discusses.

Thanks! I did scan the b guide earlier and think I read this but it didn't make sense to me at the time. For whatever reason, reading it here now I can see the point.
I did also see some people have had good reactions. They seemed like mostly older posts so I wasn't sure if there were more effective combos now.
I think I'm going to take a break from frantically researching. It seems like I need to.
And I certainly have learned enough to talk someone's ear off about tbd's...
