My question is can Bartonella or mold effect the western blot test to give a false positive on band 23?

I have had a positive test for Bartonella and a negative on western blot except for band 23. I have never seen a tick or been bitten, but I have been scratched many times in my life by cats, so the bartonella makes sense.

The western blot only came up with band 23, which I know if a positive Lyme band. I did a month of doxycycline at 100 mg 2x a day. Then a week of 200mg 2x a day. I had no herx reaction or felt any better.

I then had a positive test for bartonella, and started treatment with Rifampin 300mg 2x a day along with A-bart and A-Iflam. With the A-bart and A-Inflam if a go up on the dose to quickly it gives me massive headaches.

I am also taking Cholestyramine Powder 4g 4x a day 1/2 hr before meals. Along with a bunch of vitamins.

I have notice a few symptoms going away over the last few weeks, but nothing major only the small ones that didnt bother me that much to begin with.

--------------------
Bartonella (Rifampin 300 mg 2x day, A-Bart, A-Iflam)
Toxic mold exposure (Cholestyramine 4x day)
Heavy metals
Marcon staph infection (Beg spray)

Sorry I am just seeing your post. I have been out of touch for the past few weeks and haven't checked the posts.

You may have found an answer to your question, but from what I have learned and heard from the LLMD's I have either been to or read about, the bands that are specific to Lyme, even if only one band shows up means you have Lyme.

Our friends daughter has been in treatment for many many years and she just finally got a CDC Positive. It takes our bodies at times a long time to develop antibodies to it because our immune system is so weak and just not developing antibodies.

I also thought that Bartonella was suppose to be treated with Rifampin PLUS another antibiotic or it will not be effective. I think it even lists that on most of the reputable Lyme sites and even the "other"ones like NHI or the CDC.

I hope that cholestyramine powder helped get rid of your mold. I know that has been a significant problem for our family and we just do not have the money to get rid of all of the mold at this time.

So we are running air purifiers that are suppose to filter out mold and other particles that small.

Hope you are feeling better. But I don't personally think mold can affect Band 23...especially if it is a Lyme specific band, IMO.
