I am trying to get back on IV treatment, but have new insurance that almost surely won’t pay for rocephin. If I want IV to possibly be covered, I will have to stay away from the “L” word, so they won’t deny my treatment, esp for IV, but really for anything!
Infuserve says that the IV abx that are more likely to be covered are Clindamycin, Claforan, and Zithromax (had increased tinnitus from that orally).
I know that I have always tested positive (before IVIG, when I had the antibodies of thousands of donors in my blood) for: Lyme, Anaplasma (may have finally beat that one), Mycoplasma, Chlamydia Pneumonia. .
What TBD pathogens is clindamycin (IV or oral) used for besides Babesia & Lyme? Is it ever used for any of the others above?
What about Claforan? Zithromycin (if I can tolerate it)?
I may have to go to just orals, or find a much cheaper way of getting rocephin, ie, getting the powder, mixing it myself, and maybe even getting it from another country. Not sure what I will do. Thank you!

Hi Rumi,
Not sure about the other IV abxs but just wanted to assure you that mixing the rocephin was very simple. After about 5 times, it was just habit.
Just to reassure you that if it comes to it, you would be able to do it well. Also I took a pic of my supplies for one infusion...gives you an idea of what's involved and supplies needed each day. PM me if you are interested and I will email you.
Sorry I don't know any info about the other abx you mentioned. Hope others will chime in soon. Posts: 4358 | From British Columbia, Canada | Registered: Jun 2013

Thank you, Greta, I sent you a PM.
Still up for more replies about what other pathogens those 3 abx are used for---esp TBD's.

up one last time. Does anyone know? I'm going back to my old doctor on Thurs. and have to have my ducks in a row if I want to try to get IV and get it covered without using the fatal "L" word! Thank you.
