I've been having almost contestant twitching lately. It has even woken me up from sleep and the eye twitching sometimes affects my vision.

The only change in protocol I have made is to increase my bolouke and nattokinase dose and to add Schisandra, per my doctor. She cautioned me strongly to not start the Schisandra until I had been at the higher doses of enzymes for two weeks, which I did.

I have looked for info about side effects of Schisandra that are consistent with twitching and nerve issues, but have not seen anything. Does anyone have any ideas or links that may discuss this? Thanks so much for ideas, suggestion!!!!! [Smile]

I am not familiar with the protocol you are on with bolouke and nattokinase - but if those were also increased it may not be the schizandra.

You might back up, drop the schizandra, get the increased bolouke and nattokinase leveled out and the restart at very low dose, early in the day, not past 3 pm - the schizandra . . . stay low and slow and see how that goes before working up and adding throughout day.

Because I have only passing familiarity with your protocol and have never been on that one myself, comments below would not "cover" the interactions with other elements in your protocol.

But, if alcohol tinctures, my experience with those in general is that more than just one or two was too much for my body.

Schizandra has been very good for me. But, at first, I got the wrong formula for me and that was too high, out of balance. After then finding Sheng Fa, it's been great for many years now, on and off. That one seems the perfect balance for me.

I wonder if maybe you are getting too much, or a different brand, different combination (it's usually best in a formula). Too high a dose is my first thought.

[Editing in: this next part below, I reread and see that you have a LL doctor, so that's not so important if you got this from him, or it's one he recommended. But I'm too tired to edit and reword this.]

I've studied this a lot. If you post the link that lead to the source of it, and the ingredient list I could see if anything jumps out about it.

The form you take also matter (tincture, powder, etc.). But the brand and specific item will help the most to figure it out. The suggested dose you were recommended and is this with a particular protocol?

As I understand it, this is solely support, so it should not "herx" but it can be stimulating if too much taken.

And, it's not right for every person, regardless.

Tillotson cautions regarding the potential of stimulation with this (alone): avoid "if you have elevated intracranial pressure or epilepsy." - From The One Earth Herbal Sourcebook.

Still, as a part of balanced formula specifically matched to the patient, this can be very helpful. This is the part I found to be so true for my body. In Sheng Fa Wan, it stopped seizures for me. Calmed down that overactive startle reaction. But it was not working alone.

For similar desired effect to that, Gotu Kola might work better for you.

Schizandra - some research links -

- the articles here from ITM and from The One Earth Herbal Sourcebook might shed some light on your experience - and how to set that right

Has your magnesium intake gone below optimal? The symptoms suggest magnesium deficiency &/or need for increased dose or more often throughout the day (as it can't be taken all at once, divided doses required).

Keebler, thank you so much for your thoughtful responses!!. I am taking Schisanrdra Supreme in capsule form(two per day).

My doc thinks my Lyme is pretty much I under control, but that I have biotoxin issues and probably the Fry bug. I test negative for it, but have high levels of biofilms which is what the enzymes are supposed to be breaking down.

You are probably right about the magnesium, as I am a bit inconsistent in taking it and have also had some muscle cramps. I think the Schisandra is improving my energy and stamina, so I will continue taking it. My brain fog seems to be lifting as well. I have been reviewing all my supplements and meds and think I may have actually found another culprit for the twitching ( in addition to the low Mg).

Thank you again for your help. You have provided a wealth of knowledge!!! [Smile]
