my friend was diagnosed with lyme. she went to her regular dr. I assume he's a gp altho I'm not sure.

he only gave her 14 days of doxy and flagyl. poor woman is flat out broke. so to "save money" she's cutting her pills in half.

she has no insurance and can't afford the doc in xxxx cause he's cash only.

I hate to see her do this but annie has a brick for a head. when I try to talk to her she just says it's her life and where did I learn about lyme anyway.

I think the doxy is about 1500 before cutting and the flagyl is 500.

I give up. frankly I'd like to shake her but hey....

cutting pills in half is just as bad as no pills.

Not just by cutting the dose but some pills have

protective coating and with that gone, mouth, esophagus and upper stomach can burn.

Dividing capsules: note that the powder or granules inside could be loaded in a certain order, not mixed and if divided, it may not be accurate.

For pills that can be prescribed in higher dose and split to save costs, though to the ACTUAL prescribed dose -- IF those considerations are not at issue, check to be sure that would be okay. But don't cut pills more than a day in advance as humidity can then enter the cut places and affect the quality of Rx.

The book MAY help. Hope so!

Never heard of taking 1500 mg of doxy .. so I hope that is wrong.

Clearly, she has the dose wrong. She could get more doxy through a cheaper route. PM me if you don't remember. I don't know the exact site, just the general route. Not ideal, but better than the alternative.

Keebler's point about it burning your esophagus if cut in 1/2 is right on. Doxy can do that anyway.

Hope she knows to avoid the sun, too. Yeesh, people should NOT have to beg for treatment.
