Anyone else out there have the rare reactions to antibiotics? Does anyone have any words of advice for me? Is anyone out there in my predicament?

I'm starting to think that the rashes I get when i take antibiotics is due to the Lyme - and perhaps the 1% of population that has the rare side effect of taking a drug may be the undiagnosed population.

I will likely be placed on multiple antibiotics soon. I will face more effects than intended, as well as the long term deterimental impacts the community is trying to give as an excuse to not treat the sick.

Minocyclin - rash
Cipro - increased heart rate (180 beats / minute at rest)

too many others that this foggy mind can not recall

I got hives to many medications when I was treating lyme and even for a few years after I got rid of lyme.

Hives to antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, hormones, etc.

There are plenty of old posts about this if you do a search.

Now, I can take all of those meds and don't get hives. It has been over 9 years since I got rid of lyme, babesiosis, and bartonella.

A good lyme doctor knows how to work around the patient's reactions. They have to know many different meds that treat each disease. This way, if you can't take one, they give you another.

This is very, very common with lyme. I experienced it for sure.

I believe I have read that the immune system over-reacts because of the lyme.

Your heart symptoms are also a common reaction among lyme patients.

I get a large face, neck, and chest rash from doxy. But I also feel a lot better after I get off of it. Cipro causes numerous problems with skin and muscles....but again, it helps immensely with bartonella where rifampin, septra, bactrim, rocephin failed.

You may also have been "floxed" by past use of Cipro. That can make your entire body more sensitive to medications of all kinds.

Cipro is a fluroquinolone and quinolones can do bad things to the heart. They are on my "allergic" list.

I'm allergic to at least 10 common antibiotics. Even amoxicillin which is suppose to be gentle (look up amoxicillin rash).

Also genes. I lack the genes to even process some meds, including whole classes of antibiotics.

Get your total IgE blood levels checked. I have a mast cell disorder and just react to things. Genetic testing is also helpful.

When the immune system gets overloaded (infection, toxic exposure, etc...) it just become sensitive and hyperactive.

"rifampin, septra, bactrim, rocephin failed"

I'm allergic to all those, never tried septra.

Antibiotics can cause rashes, very common with or without Lyme/co’s.

I’ve been getting rashes for 9 years, almost always (stomach/chest). I haven’t taken any meds in over two years, so for me, it’s the Lyme bring on the rashes.

I could no longer continue doxycycline due to satellite rashes, silver dollar size. Eight to 13, on torso and thighs. Three different times, with some weeks in between.

Each time, all erupted in the same places, exactly (plus a few new ones).

I had taken doxy just fine at an earlier time. Two months at one point as my main treatment -- all that was allowed.

But, some years later, I did okay for a short time then it hit. Each of the multiple rashes resembled a bulls eye and, sure, it could be sign of lyme "coming out" but each one was unbearable. Painful burning to to the touch, even hot . . . itches beyond belief. I simply could not get past the 3rd try.

Each of those last three times I tried, within 20 minutes, the first circle started showing and itching. Yet, it took weeks for them to fade. Some stayed "grey" for months, with hints of sharp twinges.

Never again. No more doxycycline for me. I don't care what it all was, I just know, it's not even on my menu anymore.

I would never recommend to anyone to try to "work though" any rashes if they are painful or itch. Other than adding to the torture that so goes with lyme / TBD . . . regardless of the action causing this . . . there is always another way to approach it.

And, even if it is a sign of lyme coming out, the way the body is overreacting, such a reaction could become more vile, even violent and it's best not to push it.
