My current doc has rx'd rifampin only 3 days per week, Mon, Wed, Fri, and at a low dose (150 mg twice a day, if I remember right).

I didn't know it until after my visit, and after I started it, as I had some left over. I presumed it was every day and at the dose I had before (twice this dose), so I ramped up to my previous dose.

I don't think that pulsing rifampin is a good idea!! (This doc trained with Dr. J, who pulses meds).

So far, I have been continuing with the dosage that I started with--or ramped up to---as I had it left over, and didn't want to start pulsing it or taking a lower dosage.

Comments? Suggestions? I will have a new appt soon and will discuss it with him. But I can't always change his mind.

I wouldn't pulse it, I would be afraid of developing resistance.

Pulsing rifampin is not good.

Rather, taking the lowest dose possible, every 12 hours, will keep steady serum concentrations.

I started at 150mg twice daily, then worked up.

It also always needs to be paired with another abx. Zithromax, doxy or mino.

Rifampin is the only abx I know of that should NOT be pulsed.

(otherwise, it is rendered useless)

Anyone have experience with Rifampin and taking meds like Xanax.

I have heard that Rifampin can interfere with other meds.

I feel very strongly, from my own personal experience w/ my first treating LLMD,

that pulsing rifampin for Bartonella will indeed make it resistant/ ineffective, and a true viable solution to eliminating Bart will be lost.

Rifampin can interact w/ other meds, best to check online at drug interactions. com
