Can eating gluten with lyme cause stomach aches, etc?

Is there no test available to test for gluten intolerance, i already get checked for celiac.

Yes.

The main thing to do is completely eliminate it for 4-6 wks and see how you feel. Testing for celiac does not really mean a lot since it can come back falsely negative.

Your DIET is huge when it comes to healing your body.

So no pasta etc?! Even chicken breading? Lol.

I'm guessing and hoping it's the lyme. I highly doubt i have celiac, my vitamin counts and hemoglobin was fine.

I could have gastritis/ulcer which i highly doubt an ulcer from all the otc i used to take a lot for a while, but i also read lyme can cause stomach problems

"highly doubting" you don't have celiac is not a good guess. Unless you do a genetic blood test, there is no way to know. Many celiac testing methods just don't work all the time, even the stomach biopsy. Sure was wrong in my case. A genetic blood test confirmed celiac when other methods gave false reports.

Still, because various infections can trigger celiac - or also cause various shades of gluten sensitivities -- AND INFLAMMATION from gluten . . . it is best for those who are ill to be gluten free to less the body inflammation.

It's a good idea to have the genetic blood test just to know but, still, even so - please go back and read the "Modern Wheat is Poison" article posted for you in a recent thread. So much vital detail there.

And it's not just wheat but also barley and rye.

At the celiac web sites previously listed for you are lists of foods that are "safe"

No regular chicken breading but there are other ways. Lentil flour will work. Season it as you would otherwise with your favorite herbs & sea salt. Or just bake it with a good oil and herbs.

Pasta - Tinkyada brand or Trader Joe's brown rice gluten free PENNE. I find PENNE easier that long noodles. Still, we should not have any kind of simple sugars like that very often, even if gluten free.

Black Rice, Red Rice, Wild Rice, Quinoa, are some good things that can be used in moderations that are more complex carbohydrates.

Spaghetti Squash can be excellent, too, along with good protein and other veggies, and a good fat.

Yes, there are likely other influences regarding the cause(s) of your stomach pain. And when you get in to see a LLMD, they can help sort out a plan to assess that. But nothing - nothing - is a get out of jail free card to continue eating wheat at a time when it is top on the list of considerations.

If you can eliminate all traces of gluten for a couple months and see how that works, that's a top detective move right there.

It can be a sharp turn at first but you will likely figure out the best alternatives for a few things like pasta and then just other foods to enjoy. I was stunned at first, too. But now I don't even notice that I just "don't eat that food." I know what happens when I do and I will never go back there. I'm in a much better place now without it.

Our prompting this matter is not to be stern but to emphasize the importance of this move and the benefits it could bring. But it does have to be a total commitment.

There is no "cheating" where gluten is concerned, not for holiday or birthdays or any day. A trace of gluten can create brain trouble for up to six months after consumption for someone with celiac.

Google "HIDDEN SOURCES OF GLUTEN" and check the different sites for a composite list. And remember, you can still enjoy fabulous foods - adjustments have been made by many before you who are eager to help.

If you don't have genetic celiac, avoiding gluten while ill and recovering can make a huge difference. Then after a good solid remission for a while, you may be able to reintroduce good quality wheat, rye or barley. Some have done well with this method.

Barilla makes a really good gluten-free pasta. It's our favorite. They have it at Giant and Stop & Shop. It's not in the health food aisle, but right next to the regular pasta.
