I'm still hxaving severe sinus issues. lots of pain, stuffiness, headache and all.

I had to stop the augmentin xr due to severe stomach and colon pain. the pain felt just like a severe diverticulitis attack including diahhrrea.

I've tried to think of what could set it off. the only thing I have done differently is change my facial soap and moisturizer.

could this be causing these severe problems? if it's this brand I guess my sister will inherit the complete line. what a shame....

Doesn't sound like it, but who knows.

Dairy is usually the culprit when it comes to sinus issues.

Also sugar in any form.

"could this be causing these severe problems? "

Yes, especially ones with fragrance added. I've definitely had bad reactions like you described. It took me a long time to find soap, lotion, makeup, etc... that didn't cause a reaction.

I could probably start a mini-cosmetic counter with all the stuff I tried that I can't use.

How international!

How about going Hawaiian? I like Oils of Aloha products. I love their cream.

I don't know which Skinn products you used, but there are reviews here (the cleansers got poor ratings):

All

Cleansers

There was a mixed bag on moisturizers:

http://tinyurl.com/msl2f2w
http://tinyurl.com/mf2m9vl

Maybe lay off Skinn and go back to your safer products for a few weeks to see if this calms down.

I've had good luck with Lancome. I love their unscented powder to liquid foundation and eye make up remover (it's the only one that doesn't irritate my eyes, even the natural ones cause irritation and the fragrance doesn't bug me).

A friend swears by Clinique, but I didn't like their stuff.

You could also look at the organic lines called Suki and Sanre.

For make-up- Gabriel and Zuzu. The Sanre has tinted moisturizer that is really nice.

I believe they can. For me it wasn't sinus, but a runny nose, constantly. One day I heard that those with ragweed allergies should avoid camomile. Well, I was drinking a lot of c tea. Stopped that, but still a runny nose. I checked all my cosmetics... Every single product had camomile in it. I switched any runny nose stopped! That was years ago. More recently, I was trying a neck cream. And every time I used it for more than a day... I got the feeling of swollen glands. So I do believe, if there is something in these we can't tolerate they can cause problems...

I'm the same as Judy. A lot of facial products make me very congested and I have had to experiment with a wide range of products in order to find the right ones for my sinuses.

Yes, stuff applied on the skin can certainly trigger allergic reactions, sinus problems, etc. For example, people with Celiac Disease have to be careful about skin care products because wheat protein (gluten) can be used in cosmetics, shampoos & lotions (among other things).

Don't put anything on your skin you wouldn't want to eat. It is absorbed through the skin, thus gets into your body. And skin absorption bypasses liver processing, which means the stuff goes in whole & not broken down/digested.

Coconut oil makes a wonderful skin moisturizer, and has natural anti-fungal, anti-viral & anti-bacterial properties.

Olive oil + fresh squeezed lemon juice = excellent facial peel. Apply the olive oil, then dab on the lemon juice. When it dries to a sticky/tacky sensation, begin to rub the skin where the lemon juice has been applied.

Repeat a second time for best results. It is amazing how much dead skin and gunk comes off with this simple method.

Can google for more ideas for nontoxic and healthy food-based beauty techniques.

Amen to all of the above! I use safflower oil on my skin and that is it.

I react to coconut oil now. I think it's because of the salicylates.

I don't put much stock in Paula's choice reviews. if you notice she rates her line as excellent in all categories while trying to be fair to others.

that's as bad as the fox guarding the henhouse. asking someone who sells a product to rate competitors is not exactly "fair and balanced".

I did my research tho and I'm switching to another line I have. signature club a. at least I don't break out from it even tho it's heavy.

my sisters enjoy my mistakes tho...

I had an extreme chemical sensitivity stage of this Lyme experience where I was bothered by everything and had to switch things out for chemical free. It's a project at the start but like everything else you start to see those chemical laden foods and products as disgusting.

This site is awesome for finding non-toxic products.

"I don't put much stock in Paula's choice reviews."

Something I do like is that she lists all the ingredients.

If you look at the Skinn products, there are tons of essential oils. These commonly irritate the sinuses, even peppermint oil for some people.

yes! I get that way from many kinds of lotions , make-up, you name it!

sick sick sick.

I had to switch to natural cosmetics and I have not looked back!

100% pure is really good and their lotions are excellent. all thier makup is tinted with food!! - but stay away from strong fragranced items even if natural- like vanilla or coffee can still bother . I use their PURIST line the most as it is better than Chanel or anything else I have ever tried that is natural. (I am not young , but not a senior) [Wink]

these are alternatives I have tried that work great and I love:

100% Pure
http://www.100percentpure.com/

Dr. Hauschka- wonderful but very pricey

MyChelle

Dr. Hauschka adds fragrance to the eyeshadow of all things.

I bought some without reading the ingredients first just assuming it would be safe.

I haven't been able to use any fragrance for years; thank God I smell & look good without them!!! [Smile]

This is how bad it is - When I walk through a store like Macy’s, I literally have to hold my nose and breathe. People look at me like I’m crazy but, who cares, it’s better than having an attack in public.

Those people handing out samples are lucky I haven't killed them yet. I just walk on by, make a few (no so nice comments – as I’m holding my mouth & nose) – (roll my eyes) – and go on my merry way.

I know you’re mainly talking about woman fragrances, but I just wanted to let you know that fragrance can be very bad for everyone.

So yes, cosmetics can trigger all these problems including sinus issues.

Also watch out for - Dust, pollen, mold, pet dander, cleaning products, air fresheners, food allergies, leaky gut syndrome, chronic candida, parasitic infection and so on.

Remember, Beauty is not in the makeup, fragrances, and cosmetics.

It’s when you look into a woman's eyes and see what is in her heart.

(True beauty is from inside)

Steve

And being a few days after Halloween, any chance you were digging in the leftovers?

I'm betting the sinus issues are FUNGAL in nature - meaning, Augmentin did nothing but make you more yeasty and more fungally. Augmentin over time made me feel like someone had taken a vaccuum cleaner and sucked all the air out of my head.

I've walked in your shoes many times. And the only thing that got rid of the sinus issues AND the hyper sensitivity was long term Diflucan to get rid of the fungal infection that had taken over, and also properly addressing any real food or environmental allergies.

My Allergist explained how important addressing allergies is - if you need to take Zyrtec/Clarinex, whatever, then DO It. Every day. If you have a gluten allergy, stop eating it. If you have a sneeze attack (more than 3 sneezes), take a Benadryl then and there. Allergies are crushers on your immune system, and we already have enough to deal with.

About that candy? Fungal goes systemic, which means clean diet is a must.

Oil of oregano, capryllic acid, thieves oil, OLE, there are many other options if you can't take diflucan.

You can take thieves oil orally? I just breathe it to kill bugs

And i used to be like steve...but i remember it more in grocery store. Couldnt go down soap aisle. Had to ask someone to get the fragrance. Free detergent i needed

There have been times i had wear mask when pollen was bad too. I would make so many tears i couldnt see

But...i got a book about chemical sensutivities and i did exactly what it said. Basically removed all chems f etc om my living area. Brought in replacements that didnt bother me. Really simple clean replacements...like white vinegar for my only cleaning soap

After awhile symptoms went away and i was able to use a few things that botheted me before. Mold, cigarette smoke, long term.cat all bother me still. And this year the ragweed got me for the first time...but i made the mistke of putting in an olefin carpet at the same time and i was run down

My point is if you get all the bad stuff gone...and you stop being reactive...you might be able to move some things back in...

Im close to unpacking books so i can Bb probably find author and title if you want it

I temember one of the worst things was my dsughter was 13-14-15 or so and druving her and her friends to concerts etc was horrible! All those girls with whatever they put in their hair plus beginning of make up and perfume. Yuk! But i kept my window open. Took my antihistamines before we left. I didnt dare say anything and "embarrass" her. Nope. I had lyme but we pretended i didnt. I just wanted to be a cool.mom

Good luck randi. You can make a big difference by getting everything out and finding substitutes for what you can and slowly trying products that dont smell so much
