My work is in a dangerous environment.
Sometimes in the middle of the night, I wake up (if bart has let me sleep...), with a terrible feeling that my coworkers are in immenent danger and something catastrophic has happened.
Then, when I go to work the following day, the entire day I am waiting for an explosion or something that will kill or maim.
It's terrible to feel on edge and jumpy like that.
Those are the feelings of doom I get.
They are hard to shake. Sometimes will last four days or so.
Anyways, sorry you are going through this also.

Couple ideas, besides inflam from the illnesses - need for more oxygen, as in take several slow deep breaths?
Also, interestingly enough, I did the 23andme saliva genetic test, interpreted by geneticgenie, The test can show genetic defects in enzymes that affect our neurotransmitters, which means our ability to shift moods, including anxiety.
Meaning if we have the defect, it can be hard to clear the neurotransmitters, causing lingering moods, and the pathway needs supplement alteration. I don't have my notes in front of me now, but I could find them and report the pathway.

I just ordered that test actually so I cant wait for it to get here. Any info on how to interpret the results which takes a few weeks would be helpful.

Robin-is it the BHMT one?
I think that's the one I have, and the one that controls serotonin and dopamine?

No, the BHMT one is in the methylation cycle #4 on a chart I'm going to list the url for:
tagudin.typepad.com/alter-everything/2011/10/day-307-methylation.map-html - click on the Methylation Map title to enlarge it.
The one I'm referring to is the 2nd group in this methylation map. Serotonin and dopamine are clearly listed in the 2nd cycle. If we have genetic enzyme defects here affecting any of the boxed letter enzymes needed, we have a hard time clearing our neurotransmitters, both the enjoyable and the unpleasant ones - like it takes us awhile to turn around emotionally.
The key to the interconnected methylation cycles is in the upper left:
#1 is urea cycle #2 is neurotransmitters cycle #3 is folate cycle #4 is methionine (methylation) cycle #5 is transulfuration cycle
A genetic defect in the boxed enzymes will compromise that cycle.
The 23andme saliva genetics test, interpreted by geneticgenie, then given to a doctor who knows how to understand the SNPs - ie the single nucleotide polymorphisms - a fancy word for genetic mess-ups in the enzymes needed for methylation - can tell us why we have the detox challenges we have and what to do about it.
Liver detoxing takes place in two steps: like the bathtub fills up - ie the 1st step, and the bathtub drains - the 2nd step.
If our liver attaches a hydroxyl group too quickly to toxins in the 1st step, we react to toxins. If it doesn't clear - ie methylate - the toxins quickly enough, or sufficiently, or at all, in the 2nd step, we're sick.
I am only beginning to learn about this, so can only explain it in simple terms.
I see a brilliant doc in SF who understands it all and knows how to support the missing links with supplements for them.

I'm not telling someone to avoid anti-depressants (they helped me at one time, but there was A LOT of trial and error and I eventually burnt out on them).

Hard to believe, but there's Bach Flower remedy for what the original poster is talking about. It's the one called Mustard. It works, I've tried it. I used to not only feel that doom feeling on days when the sky is dark and clouded over, but when I was really low, I would get it on sunny days when a cloud would make it cloudly. It would almost shut me down. Mustard does work for it.
