My mother has to take magnesium supplements due to low levels in her blood. Unfortunately, the magnesium seems to be causing her to have loose stools.
Are there any types of magnesium I could suggest to the doctor that might not have this effect?

- Glad to see Judie piped in already with good detail.
Also be sure to not take the full day's dose all at once. It must be in divided doses, 3 - 4 x day. More detail here on various types and the best ways to benefit:

The only one that hasn't caused the stool problems is sublingual magnesium. Look up angtrom magnesium and Mother Earth.
I've tried ALL the pill variations and the Calm drink. They all made me have loose stools.
Nettles tea is high in magnesium (you need to make a slurry and strain).

It is my understanding that magnesium malate does not cause diarrhea. This is per my MDs recommendation. I used to divide the dose (3 tabs a day) but sometimes I would not get around to taking one or two tablets.
I just decided to try 3 tablets per the bottle's instructions. I have had zero issues with bowels. In fact, I have even increased the dose on occasion to 4-5 tablets a day and still zero problems.
