posting this because it helped me so much - it may not help you

I know all about Lyme rage as well as fear and anxiety - one supplement that helped with my symptoms was Inositol Powder (12-18 g per day)

I thought - pah, this does nothing and let it run out, and OMG did I have an episode 2-3 days later - back on the Inositol and well again - stopped it or got lazy taking it and symptoms returned

it may be just me - I may need it in the brain and my body may be unable to make it - normal people make it in their bodies - it also naturally occurs in fruit, especially cantaloupe and oranges but I would have to eat 9 cantaloupes a day to get 12 g of inositol - like I said, if I were healthy, my body would make what is needed but seems unable to do so with Lyme/Bart/Babs infections

you can google Inositol and OCD behavior and it will come up with studies, I think

it also affected my fear and rage - miraculously - I was afraid to go to the kitchen at night, even in my house, because it was dark, even if I could switch lights on - I would stay thirsty until morning, it was so bad - after the Inositol, I can go out to the woods at night with a flash light and feel no fear

it was like being a fish and being able to breathe under water suddenly - a whole new world opened to me - I never imagined what it is like to be free of fear

inositol is not expensive, easy to get (I get the powder not the caps because I need the higher doses), tastes good, and supposed to be harmless - may be worth a try for others with Lyme induced fear/anxiety/rage

Ok, I have the MTHFR gene defect and that may be part of it for me - I am not sure

I think Inositol is a B-vitamin precursor - any corrections by someone more knowledgeable appreciated

so if B-vitamins are a problem in Lyme patients - maybe Inositol plays a big role, too

Wikipedia says that Lyme and B-12 deficiency are two possible causes of reversible dementia

B vitamins seem to have a big effect on brain chemistry - I am not sure how

I get the Inositol from Swanson online swansonvitamins.com - about $12 for one can (sometimes they have a 25% off sale on their name brand, which this is, but not often)

I use the:
100% Pure Inositol Powder
8 oz (227 grams) Pwdr
Swanson $12.49

you can go their web site and then put Inositol into the search engine and it should come up

it comes with a scoop to measure out 6g

over 50.- is free shipping, I think, so I get enough at once to get that - ifyou never tried it I would only get one can to try and see if it does anything for you first, of course

one can has (30) 6g helpings, so I use 2 cans/tubs a month - not too expensive

they are really white plastic tubs (with screw on/off lid) not cans [Smile]

if you try it, you may want to start slowly and ramp up to a higher dose gradually - as with everything: ask your health care professional (LLMD, herbalist, etc.) about what is right for your individual case

the can says 1 scoop a day and that = 6g

From WebMD:

Inositol is a vitamin-like substance. It is found in many plants and animals. It can also be made in a laboratory.

Inositol is used for diabetic nerve pain, panic disorder, high cholesterol, insomnia, cancer, depression, schizophrenia, Alzheimer’s disease, attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism, promoting hair growth, a skin disorder called psoriasis, and treating side effects of medical treatment with lithium.

Inositol is also used by mouth for treating conditions associated with polycystic ovary syndrome, including failure to ovulate; high blood pressure; high triglycerides; and high levels of testosterone.

How does it work?

Inositol might balance certain chemicals in the body to possibly help with conditions such as panic disorder, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and polycystic ovary syndrome.

Ours came today...... hubby took 1 scoop (2 g) this evening.

Thought he would start out slow with 1 scoop twice a day and work up from there.

How soon did you notice a difference after you started taking it?

To be honest I did not notice anything - I have so many symptoms that come and go all the time

but I did notice when it ran out and 2-3 days later it hit me (and I went on and off to see and could repeat the effect)

so, maybe it takes 2-3 days?

also, I don't think the low dose works to see changes - so maybe look for changes 2-3 days after reaching a higher dose?

I can't recommend it, but suddenly stopping may also show you if it does anything to you
