I just got my 1st picc line and tonight did an IV push of Glutathione myself.

Ever since, when I lie down I have heart palpitations. Is this something related to the picc? Or just normal palpitations?

I'm a bit scared having this in my chest.

I'm pretty sure it's just the PICC and liquid moving through it. I had palps everytime I infused even saline. I had one for a couple yrs. But good for you, glutathione should help. I don't think it's anything to worry about.

When I did glut pushes or anything too quick, it happened more often.

I had some pretty bad stuff happen with my PICC including a lot of air let in, infection, tripled up on meds once, it's pretty hard to screw it up. That said, be careful.

Droid's advise is wonderful, as usual, but I will add, just to be safe and because we do NOT mess with the eyes or heart....

Please check with your health care professional.

OK?

Oh, and if this will make you feel a bit better... I was never more miserable as I was when I had a pic line. I made myself be miserable I'm afraid.

I was scared every minute of every day. Anxiety through the roof. As many others experienced, I'd had some, actually a long string of idiot docs who did not know what they were doing and I was having to suddenly trust them with my life after I'd learned the hard way not to.

Some nights I came real close to yanking out the line it scared me so much. By the end of the treatment I was nearly insane. (Of course we didn't know about MTHFR, herxes and such back then, so I could only assume things were going terribly wrong and I was dying.)

So any fear or concerns you have please get them checked out if for no other reason than peace of mind. I was simply told to sit down and shut-up about it, mostly because they didn't know and certainly didn't care.

Good luck! I am sure you'll do much better than I did. Now it is much better for patients cause we have each other and we now have some doctors who know what they are doing and who do care.

I never did glutathione nor had a PICC line or central line.

However, I had many IV treatment pushes & and also IV drips of vitamins / minerals.

The pushes (usually about 20 minutes) always made me so much worse in so many ways - nearly unable to function the rest of the day and often for days afterward. And usually very painful with a fast influx of stuff into my vein.

It never occurred to me it was just too fast, too much of a flood.

A slower drip of at least 45 minutes was so much better - and far more easily tolerated.

At times, we (well, I) tried to speed up that drip and cut down the time but it always boomeranged.

Your doctor should, of course, be informed about what happened. You might ask whether the shorter push could be at least partially to blame and if a longer drip might be better.

I've heard this, too, for many others with various treatments whether nutrient or Rx: a push can be harsher; slower drips easier.

Also ask your LLMD for some emergency treatment advice so that you can handle for yourself if you have a similar situations in the future.

The first mode of support that comes to mind when I hear of palpitations is magnesium.

A PICC-line can cause arrhythmia when malpositioned.

A post-procedure chest X-ray should be done to confirm the correct position of the tip of the catheter in the superior vena cava. I assume that has been done after your PICC-line was placed.

If you continue to experience symptoms, it may be wise to ask your doctor to confirm if the tip of the catheter is still in the right place.

Catheter migration can be caused by improper securement, power injection, vomiting episodes or strenuous activity with your arm like heavy lifting, for example.

It doesn't occur very often and it may not be the cause of your problem, but it's better to be safe than sorry, I think.

Best wishes,

Notti

I used to have palpitations depending on what position I was in lying down. One side OK, the other side produced palps. I thing Notti is correct that it was the tip of the catheter causing it in my case.

Wow, thanks everyone for such helpful responses!

I took the Magnesium and it helps. It seems to be worse when lying on my back. I also think I pushed it too fast since it made me very sweaty too.

I have anxiety anyway, so that makes every little twinge of pain terrifying.

I will email my Llmd and let him know what happened since I'm due another Glutathione today or tomorrow and don't want to go through that again.

Do the glut push VERY, very slowly, like over 20 minutes, and see if that doesn't help. I also found that 2 grams was way too much for me, 1 gram infused very slowly was much better (I am very sensitive, as many of us are).
