My father has just completed a 6 week course of IV rocehpin, the first medicine given for his chronic neuro lyme.
The doctors next step in treatment after the the 6 weeks of IV rocephin is oral clindamycin 300mg bid for 4 weeks.
Based off Dr. B's protocol, I think he would need the IV rocephin for at least 14 weeks.
Also, the switch to one oral antibiotic for his severe lyme condition just doesn't seem enough. ( He is completely disabled, paraphysis of hands, can't work, bed-ridded, all bones, joints, muscles with debilitating pain and stiffness.)
All original numbness of his hands bilaterally has returned since stopping the IV, all joints have returned to the pain level he had prior to IV. He has been 6 days without the IV and just started clindamycin today.
His doctor treats lyme. We will be with this doctor until we get to an experienced LLMD in a few months.
Does anyone have any experience with clindamycin as part of their protocol? Would you agree that he should be continued on the IV rocephin?

Sure sounds like he needs more. Has the Dr considered adding flagyl as a cyst buster? Those on Rocephin usually take a cyst buster along with it or right after taking it.
While on any abx, be sure to take plenty of probiotics several hours away from the antibiotics. Clindamycin is REALLY bad about causing c.diff .. and you must protect against that.
Most take Florastor (s.boulardii) to prevent the c.diff. I would personally add Florastor to a "regular" probiotic.

I see you are in Houston. I'm near there. Do y'all see Dr. S? I'll send you a PM since we aren't supposed to talk about docs here.
I too was recently prescribed clindamycin. I don't think it's enough alone. I'm bedridden too, so I definitely can understand that.

I guess we're all different. Maybe because we have different strains of the illness? I took oral clindamycin for 5 years, and it worked great for me - it took my pain down to zero in a week's time when I started on it. It's bacterialstatic, not cidal. Penicillin is cidal, but I'm allergic to most other abx.
And I never got C diff from taking the clindamycin. I got that once from a course of erythromycin for an ear infection and went to the hospital for an IV.
A funny story from having clindamycin work for me - it was the first treatment that had taken pain away for me in 25 years! I was very excited. I had a sister who was being honored for some work, so I booked a last-minute one-way plane flight, since I had just been released from pain!
At the airport, I was pulled aside, because of my last-minute one-way booking, and subjected to all their terrorism tests, like puffs of air to see if I would explode - lol - I must have been the happiest little "terrorist" because I was laughing at my "welcome back to the world"! It was surreal, to say the least!

I did not do well with IV Rocephin. I was on it for about 4 weeks and crashed. Switched to IV Clindy and stayed on it for a couple of years. That was the magic bullet for me.
