How much is too much milk thistle? I am reordering it and I see there is a big variation in dosing.

The one I have currently been taking is 175mg milk thistle seed extract standardized to 80%

silymarin(140mg) with 120mg blessed thistle(stem, leaf, flower) and I take one in

the AM and one in the PM. I see some that are

2000mg and one that is even 9000mg. Is taking

that much safe and is it going to help more? Of course the price is more, but if the benefits

are that much better I could consider it maybe.

Thanks in advance.

Buhner recommends around 1200mg of extract per day for people with Bart

most studies are in the range 100 to 900mg of extract

as with most things that are new to you and your body its often best to start with a lower dose and work you way up

Thanks Garz!

I found one that is somewhat higher than the one I have been taking, but nowhere near the 2,000mg mark.

That was just a huge jump in strength. It threw me off a bit.

I have used it myself and not really noticed any great change in symptoms

now brand extract powder 80% sylimarins - dosed at 2x 600mg per day - for over 100days

Horowitz recommends this dosage along with Buhner.

note. there are some scientific articles showing that aflatoxins( or other mold toxins I cannot recall exactly) can be present in the cultivated seeds and extracts -

so if you experience a reaction it may be best to stop and try an alternative brand as a precuation.
