Hi there. I've been sick for 30 years, and just got diagnosed with Lyme last year.

I Just had my 1st apt with a LLMD (YAY!) last week. I've been on abx for 8 months, and I've been feeling awful for 3, so she said to go off the abx and spend the next month dealing with 'biotoxin illness' with chlorella, and getting testing (HLA, 23 and me). BUT, I'm soooo confused about the chlorella and when I can take it.

I'm not taking the abx now, but I Am taking meds and a Lot of supplements in the morning (which is noon for me), and before bed (@10pm). My dr. said I can't take the Chlorella within 2 hours of the supplements and meds bc it will bind with them too.

Is that the only caveat with Chlorella? Can I take it at 2 and midnight? Orrrr, with food, orr with tea/caffeine/juice? Or will it bind with anything and everything, both good and bad?

I'd be so, so appreciative if someone 'in the know' could tell me how they took it, when they took it etc. - because I'm just lost.

Oh, and we're holding off on trying CSM for now. I'm supposed to take 10 tabs of the Chlorella split into 2 doses.

Thanks for any advice!!! [Smile]

I usually take my cholestyramine and charcoal around midnight or later. I usually take my last meds around 9-10 pm so it doesnt interfere.

Or if you wake up really early and wait to take your first meds around 11 or noon, you can detox then.

Im about to try chlorella myself. Ive been rotating the CSM and charcoal.

These binders will bind to anything bad AND good, so definitely need that 2 hour separation if possible.

I've never been prescribed chlorella - only charcoal, microchitosan and cholestyramine (for mold).

I don't think that chlorella will bind to most good things... I use it like food, almost.

Chlorella is a plant, and it needs minerals to survive, so it is already full of minerals.

I take it anytime, specially before bedtime.

Of course, like anything else, if you take too much when you don't need it, it may be not good. During lyme, I ate chlorella, really, loads in a day, in powder or capsules or pressed, many times a day.

Charcoal, I wouldn't use it for longer periods, as it does bind to good things too. Chlorella for me was never a big problem, and I take it for more than 10 years.

dr. K. recommends taking chlorella about 30 minutes before a meal. I needed chlorella about 4-6 times a day, so I ended up taking it any time of the day. I never noticed any interaction whatsoever.

Chlorella has been a source of confusion for me as well. I did find out from my own LLMD that it is a food with what I understand to be almost miraculous powers of positive impact on one's health.

I asked LLMD recently when is the best time to take it. I'd asked others on lymenet, too, earlier, and got different answers.

From all the data I've gathered so far, it can be taken anytime you want to take it, but perhaps it's best absorbed away from much food (although the label states to take it with food!).

My doctor said that it really only binds with the heavy metals in the body, and not the nutrition that we're putting inside our bodies from our ingesting food.

I hope that this helps a little in your deciding when is the best time for you to take it, and not contributing to even more confusion (I know what that's like with all the recommended supplements we're told to take!)

Yes, chlorella is a complete plant (in dry form), so it is far from single chemicals (like minerals, vitamins, or alpha lipoic acid for example), or from non-food supplements (like clay, zeolites, for example).

In my view then, it is more to be seen as food than as a supplement.

The same way spinach or lettuce won't bind to your magnesium, your vitamins, your antibiotic, chlorella won't bind to these stuff, as it NEEDS many of the things we need for its own survival in nature. So chlorella does contain lots of minerals, aminoacids etc.

It will though bind with many heavy metals! It is in research.

I love chlorella, and I take it anytime. Really anytime.
