so, I recently started doxy for a uti. after 3 days on doxy I started having chest pain or maybe i should call it discomfort. I have had chest pain off and on for a while now but less intense.

at one point i did go to the er,( this was after a while on azith) because of chest pain, ekg was good. they also did an x ray of the heart and it looked good.

Anyway, I have history of off and chest pain and I am hoping the increase in meds is a type of herx.
especially since this increase happened before while on zith.

what do you think?
I have never heard of doxy having this side effect.

i took one day off of the doxy yesterday because of the chest pain and I am having uti symptoms again. i guess i wasn't on the doxy long enough to completely get rid of it.

Are you taking doxy WITH FOOD - in the middle of a fairly substantial meal or good snack? ALWAYS with food.

and with a fair amount of water with meal so it's not too dry (but also not so much as to keep food from protecting your stomach from doxy)?

Keeping torso upright for 30-minutes after taking?

Irritation of the esophagus could cause pain in chest, even if you don't quite feel the irritation of the mucous membrane.

Just one possibility. An x ray of the heart or EKG will not show any of the esophagus irritation.

If this, SLIPPERY ELM BARK made into a gruel should help. DGL, too.

Also, if you are not feeling well, posture could be suffering and that can also cause chest pains.

Hope you feel better.

Backing up. You say the ER trip was a while ago (?) when taking azithromycin. So not recently?

and, just yesterday you posted in another thread:

" . . . The first dose I took I noticed my left arm start tingling soon after dosing. My left arm gets weak and achy (in the same spot where it tingled) when I have a lyme flare. . . ." (end quote)

well, I'm very uncomfortable with those symptoms seeing as they can be signs of heart issues. I would not necessary consider it a herx (as your question in the other thread seemed to).

Sounds like a doctor should be consulted about the arm pain. Be sure you are taken seriously. Is your LLMD aware of this?

Of course, there could be other issues. Still . . .

good luck. take care.

yes llmd knows and doesn't seem to think anything of it.

the chest pain and arm thing has been going on for a long time. the er wasa little over a yr ago.

it was going on then and ekg and xray were good.

i can try to see a dr. this week. i have just assumed it was a lyme symptom.

If your LLMD does not think it's a serious matter, that's good. I'm sure, it's serious, of course - all pain & illness of this magnitude is but at least it's not something out of the range of what is to be expected.

And there are many reasons why that might be. So many.

Still, if you can figure out what might help along the way, that would be good, too. Be sure not to underestimate the effect & radiated pain that irritated mucous tissue can cause - all the way along the path.

It seems a good idea to have slippery elm bark powder and DGL on board. And probotics, of course.

Looking at your ergonomics - at all times, too. Maybe different chairs or pillows. Restorative yoga ?

Yep. Been there.

I wonder if they could give you Doryx instead, or some other abx? Stay away from any fluoroquinolones though!!!

Thanks for the responses.

I haven't noticed irritation of the esophagus but I may have laid down before the 30 minutes had passed.

I do frequently lay on my left arm and left side while reading/watching tv and sleeping, that may not help.

It is also like a tightness or pressure in my chest. I have insurance now so I am going to do everything I can to get in to see a dr. tomorrow. I just need to have anything serious ruled out.

I will see if I can get Doryx instead of doxy, the doxy does seem to cause stomach pain, will the doryx help that?

Could it be your lungs?

Lots of allergens out this time of year...may be causing reactive airway stuff.

Doryx is easier on the stomach.

could the lung involvement feel like chest pain? I have had a time with headache/pressure and coughing from allergies. have also been a bit short of breath.

I just thought someone on here before had mentioned they had chest pain when herxing and this became bothersome shortly after starting doxy again.

i hope to get more answers tomorrow at whatever dr. can squeeze me in.
